When I listened to Roth's commentary,he just sounded like a guy that had fun making this movie, not an egotistical ass or prick.

I always find Roth, intentionally or otherwise to come off in interviews, commentaries, whatever as an egotistical prick. He is almost like a frat boy where they are too ignornant to know what they are doing.

all I know is that I'll still never go to Slovakia even if it isn't the sh** hole that Hostel made it out to be.

On my travels around Europe, I went to Slovakia. I stayed in Bratislava, and after that I stayed in a cabin up in the mountains of Slovakia.

Hostel portrays Slovakia as this underdeveloped **** hole with no culture, where kids rob you in the street. The film would have you think Slovakia is eastern Europe, when in fact it's Central Europe. The people were nice, the hostel we stayed in Bratislava was nice, the food was cheap. In fact, we ate out in restaurants every night. There is a lovely castle and lots of nice old streets. Plenty of history and culture.

Eli Roth offends not just Americans in his portrayel of American rudeness and stupidity, but he offends Europeans. Why on Earth do the Dutch characters talk German when they should be speaking Dutch? Slovakian people are highly offended by the portayel hostel gives, and rightfully so, as it is completely false. Eli Roth would have you believe he did this on purpose to "highlight the ignorance of Americans". How is that effective in the slightest? Instead of highlighting ignorance, this film increases it.

Example. There were loud, obnoxious Americans in one hostel we stayed in. This was in Poland, Krakow. I was telling them about how great Slovakia was - and they brought up Hostel. And they started asking me, with serious faces, if Slovakia were like the movie. *******s.

Eli Roth has said countless times that he knows Slovakia isnt like that. One of the actresses in the movie actually is Slovakian, and on the commentary they talk about how when she read the script at first she was confused as to why he had made her country out as a s**t hole when it's actually very nice. I dont see anyone here dissing Eurotrip for it's portrayal of Slovakia as essentially the same as in Hostel, but it would seem that peoples hatred for Eli Roth (which I still don't understand) will just let them go off on any tangent against him.

Well Kazakahstahn isn't anything like what Borat portrays it is it?

Where this film is different is that Eli Roth slapped "based on real events" on his film.
Doesn't Texas Chainsaw Massacre claim the same thing?? Horror Director do that to add to the atmosphere of the film. TCM was however in fact very loosely based on Serial Killer Ed Gein. (Silence of the Lambs and Psycho are also based upon him as well)

and Roth has also explained over and over that the "true events" the movie was based on was actually a "pay to murder" website Harry Knowles found while searching the internet one day for random f**ked up stuff, and that the fact that someone even made a website about paying to kill someone, whether it be true or not, was enough to get him to write a movie about it

The same misperception could come out of the upcoming "Turistas" film. Personally, I'd rather stay away from the areas depicted in "Wrong Turn" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". That's inbred country.

It's because he's so egotistical and full of crap.

You mean giant-breasted wild women don't cavort naked and try to have sex and do drugs with every stranger they meet?

No, he's uncultured and uncouth. He deals in schlock and kitsch.

All I have to say is, I doubt geographical and cultural ACCURACY is something Eli Roth was trying to achieve.

No, they're just two of the many things he failed at.
He also depicts women in his films as sex objects and men as overly horny, rude idiots. If there's a negative generalization to be made, you can trust Roth will make it.

"Need a fork there cheif??"

WHAT was that line all about? Even the most obnoxious Americans aren't that rude.

bwa ha ha ha ha...you'v obviously not met many americans...all of my jobs have been in service industries, and if anything, most of the people portrayed in Eli Roth's movies are MORE civilized and show more respect that most Americans do

Scene: McDonalds, 9 pm

Customer: Are you still serving breakfast?

Me: No maam, we stop serving that at 10:30 am. I'm sorry.

Customer: Well then why the f**k do you have that part of the god damn sign lit up, you a**hole? I'll just take a big mac meal!

Me: ....*gets manager*

Manager: I'm sorry miss, but I cant have you talking to my crew that way. I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave.

Customer: Stupid prairie *N-word*! *drives off*

true story...

All the americans I have met, including personal friends and those i met in travel and jobs, have always been polite and a joy to talk to. Sure there are pricks, but every country has those. But americans are personally my favourite nationality. I prefer em to my fellow brits who have degenerated badly in the past few decades.

That can't be real, though.
