I don't think we have a thread for this already, and if we did, I'm sure it's long buried.

So, it's something we've danced around in conversations for long enough, I thought it deserved a thread for any speculative thoughts about a potential Smallville movie.

Would a movie using the exact TV universe transfer to the big screen? Or has that boat sailed in light of a Superman movie already having been released?

Perhaps a movie utilizing the cast, but moving them into the future?

For the record.. this isn't a thread aimed at bashing or discussing SR in ANY WAY (they have their own forum ;)). It's purely to discuss hopes, wishes, concerns, logistics... etc, about a Smallville movie.

PREMIERE Magazine - seems to think that a Smallville movie might work. :D

Excellent idea for a thread! Best threat of the year! :woot:

I'll come back later for my ideas.

during the Christmas hiatus, I would like to see a Smallville: Worlds Finest made for TV movie. Have of course Mr Wayne, and Selena Kyle show up. Two-part episode is enough.....

LOL Premiere magazine getting in on the act...... I have to say I whole-heartedly agree with the article and a movie of some kind be it made for TV, direct to video, or feature film.

I don't think it will be allowed with singer doing the film franchise for superman. (because WB thinks we are dumb and can't tell the difference!)

Yep, I could see great potential in a movie taking place just after Clark leaves Smallville.

I would be there 11.59 on opening night.:woot:

according to Alan Horn's last interview that doesnt seem like such a sure thing anymore.....

Sure, I'd love to see a movie set in the future using the Smallville mythology.

Frankly, once they all move off to Metropolis we're all gonna be wondering what happens next, and how they resolve the whole secret identity thing with Lois and Lex. I'd love to see how they'd handle it.

The main drawback with a Smallville feature is maintaining the 'no flights, no tights' (essentially no Superman) premise of Smallville; I dont think it be that interesting at this point; given SV has already beat it to death.

The strange thing about that Premiere opinion is they gave the film a good review

3 our of 4 stars. Most likely varying opinions among the Premiere film reviewer and the article writer.

what interview?

I think he's referring to this;

____________________________________________________________

"If we do a sequel to 'Superman,' we want it to be less expensive," Horn acknowledges. "I have to see a screenplay before I say yes to anything. But the studio would be willing to spend as much as $175 million if the screenplay and other factors warranted it."

Still, Singer has announced that he plans to direct a second "Superman" project.

____________________________________________________________

But this is old news. We knew there would obviously be conditions for a sequel, from a business standpoint, for some time. Legendary already has the film on its list of films to finance; so it really comes down to script approval. Michael Dougherty is apparently penning the screenplay right now with production plans to begin by March 08.

Yes.

What to do in the movie? Just what that recently-reposted YouTube fanvid shows: TW as Clark/Supes fighting Darkseid, Parasite, Zod, Lex, etc. AWESOME!

Ah, now this is my kind of thread! I believe I've been pushing for a SV-based movie-film since Day One. Pat can back me up on that.

Just for the record, a SV-based film would have to be based in the "future," i.e. after Clark is Superman and he and Lois are based in Metropolis.

More thoughts later. For now, add EW to the list of mainstream pubs who have supported a SV movie. Here's an article from 2002:

I would definitely spend money to see a Smallville flick. It would make it easier for me to deal with the eventual end of the show.

A smallville movie would be the perfect way to end smallville and begin a new superman legacy , but i dont know whats wrong with Warner Brothers the premiere article was right i think its time for them to rethink things.

If they could take liberties with the rights (especially if there wont be a superman returns again, movie) then a Smallville movie would be perfect. It would be a nice way to not only end the series, but to tie in with the movie franchise if possible.

I think a SV movie is a bad way to go. Would I like to see Tom Welling play Superman? Yes. But I do not want to see a SV movie. IMO when SV fans say Superman Returns messed up this and that; you need to take a look at SV because their hands are not clean either. I would have loved to see a SV movie had it happened after season 3 but after season 4&5 and Season 6 aka Green Arrow Year one. I just don't want to see SV carry over. Thats why I am upset with the show they were doing great then they started to focus in more on sex and witches and rely on the star power of B-rate heroes to help boost their rating when they were fine with out all of that. I would love to see Tom Welling play Superman in a movie be it Cartoon or the big screen but I want it to stay completely away from SV as well.

If they did a film though it would have to be soemthing that stepped Clark closer to his destiny.

Always been up for it. I hope Warner Bros. rethink things and do what they should have done in the first place.

The closets smallville will get to a movie, is a two hour series finale.

I will never understand this mentality of blaming the studio for not getting a SV movie. Nobody from the show ever lobbied for a SV movie. Gough and Millar could have gone to Warner Bros. at any time and made a pitch to them for a Superman film. You know like Singer did in 2004. But they didn't.

I'm like the show to end in a TV movie, something similar to Lois & Clark Pilot

I think it could be a success :super:

I'm all up for a Smallville movie. Even a Smallville DTV movie which is probably what could happen. It'd be a great way to end the series doing that.

I think it could work if there wasn't any other Superman movies, and if it was to evolve into a Superman franchise. I don't think you could have the movie be really early in Clarks life. I think it would have to be leading right up to the point where he would become Superman. He goes through the motions of breaking his relationship with Lana, learning fully about his past, conflicting with Jor-El, and by the end he's fully ready to accept his destiny. Oh, and as much as I'll get flak for it, someone besides Gough and Millar would have to write the script.

An SV movie might work. It would have Clark puting on the tights and become Superman. Too bad SR messed it up.

If Superman: Man of Steel doesnt happen, I wouldnt be opposed to Welling appearing as Superman in the JLA film instead of Brandon Routh.

But the major problem is the SV baggage that Welling in the role would bring; Rosenbaum would have to be Lex (which I could live with), American Idol reject Alan Ritchson as Aquaman (which would be horrible), Kyle Gallner as Flash (which wouldnt be that convincing as an adult superhero) etc

The mechanics of why Lex, Lois and Jimmy can't tell Clark from Superman after knowing him for so long would need to be explored and it would be tricky to directly reference a series that alot of potential movie goers may have never watched religiously.

Also the universe of magical witches, ghost phantoms and krypto-freaks doesnt really blend too well with BB's more versimilitude approach and tone. The universes don't mesh that well together unless they go with a new Batman.

It would be too convoluted.
