So I'm going to be flying on an airplane for the first time in 18 years...

And I'm curious to know how things have changed (other than the big obvious one). The last time I took a plane to go anywhere was when I went to Colorado for vacation after I graduated high school. Does anyone have any interesting tidbits they would like to share....? I'm not sure what to expect.

They crash a lot more now. :o

Kidding. The only thing I can think of is that smoking is completely banned on all flights, but I think it was almost that way 18 years ago anyway.

Oh and personal entertainment computers are sometimes in the seat head in front of you.

Airlines are less generous than they used to be and things cost money now. Most don't offer more than complimentary peanuts and a soda on short flights. If you want something more substantial have a cc ready, or eat before flying.

It's a 9pm flight so I'll have eaten by then. I'd prob buy water if anything. So I guess that will cost me 8 bucks :(. Just like going to a baseball game.

If you see your friend Jack on the flight, don't say hi to him. :o

lol... no they will give you water for free. Just be sure to ask for the whole bottle, and not just a cup.

I'd also say remember that you can't bring certain items in your carry on. I think you can now bring lighters, but they are stringent about having more than 4oz of liquid, etc. Be sure to check that so you don't get anything confiscated.

Have a safe flight.

Let's see... No weapons, no drugs, no flammable stuff, no joking, no smoking, no fun. :(

Some clarifications and changes:

  • Water is free.

Don't be surprised with new "Carry-On" fees. Since everybody didn't want to pay the fee for checked bags, Frontier airlines (and maybe others) are now charging fees for carry-ons.

They will make you take off your shoes at the security checkpoint

They may ask you to turn on your phone at security

Take your laptop out of your bag and put it in a separate bin at security

Check in your flight 24 hours before to get better seats (Southwest)

Apps are now available for more Airlines, download the App, use your phone as your ticket.

    Bring your own snacks

If you happen to look out the window and see a gremlin staring back at you, do not panic.

It's safer now (mechanically speaking) than it's ever been…….

I think if it's within the country it's okay.

Hmmm... I don't know why I think that, but I'll have to check for sure the next time I fly. You're probably right though.

I just think that due to the whole no food at the border thing. I may be wrong.

If folks from the Hype were all on a plane who's the first to go crazy and think the plane is about to go down?

Not me. I've flown in things that were far less reliable.

I know you can't bring liquids, and I want to say food too, but again I don't know for sure. I know you can bring food on the airplane, but that's because it's bought in the terminal, so it's airport approved.

He could check the website or call ahead to make sure.

Probably me due to the fact I ALWAYS manage to watch Final Destination before I get on a plane.
