I was really thinking of sinking some cash in to one recently. Unfortunately I don't really know anything about them. Naturally I thought I'd access this brain-trust known as the Hype and see if any of my fellow comrades in comics rode bikes, what they rode, and what I should know before I buy. So, yeah, anybody?

One could argue that motorcycles and cars can have separate threads. God knows you need separate licenses to drive 'em.

I'm planning on getting one once I get my license.

Exactly, no need for sadness 'round these parts, buckaroo. :o

Anyways, what got me thinking about these bikes most recently was one of my co-workers drives one of these:

and it pretty much gets me all hot and bothered. Then I find out how cheap bikes usually are. Add on top of that how much cheaper it is on gas. Add on top of THAT how much I don't really need to drive long distances or have a lot of seats, or lug around a lot of groceries or baggage or anything else that you might use a car for, and I'm pretty much thinking that this is the option for me.

So what kind of motorcycle you looking at SF?

A scooter. I'm fairly broke and I mostly need something to get from point A to point B.

Bikes are nice to look at and probably fun to drive but I say dont get one....it just doesnt seem worth it. Obviously if you got in some accident, god forbid, there's no way you'd come out undamaged. Maybe I'm being a bit of a wuss but coming fresh out of a bad car accident, I couldnt imagine if it were a bike instead.

I'll stick to my BMX Bike!

I know the big bikes look good, but it's best to start with a smaller one, 250cc or 600cc, that way when you do eventually crash, it won't be so bad (or expensive)

Nothin' wrong with scooters! Unless you're looking to join Hell's Angels or something, then it might be frowned upon. Just about anything's better then public transportation.

That's the one thing I have heard, is that I should probably look in to something maybe 500cc's or there abouts since I'm just starting.

Depends on where you are. If I was still in New York, public transit would be my primary mode of transportation. Here in Denver, you're pretty much a second class citizen if you're not driving, so I need to get a vehicle.

Years ago, I used to own a Yamaha Radian. I loved it, but time marches on and I got married and had kids and got a car.

In the future, I hope to get an electric for commuting and just general playing around with. They seem like so much fun.

I'm looking at the Brammo Enertia most closely, but the Zero DS also seems really cool. It will be a while before I can afford either one, though.

You know, I've always wanted a scooter. I have a car, but I'd love to have something for running errands like buying milk from the store, dropping stuff off at the post office, stopping by the bank, etc. Everything is like 20+ minutes away by foot (ah the joys of suburbs being built around farming towns), I don't want to waste gas on my car by taking so many short trips, and I hear scooters can run on a single tank of gas for weeks at a time.
