ok...so i think i may have watched high Fidelity once to offten but i've bought some 7" singles and was wondering....apart from looking cool is there any advantage over cd's?

all i can see is that they look cool and take up slightly more space...anyone got anything?

I like the crackel and the warmth generated by a HI-FI, but in the end CD's own. It's more of a nostalgia thing.

i'm 18...i barely remember tapes....how does that work?

i still use tapes- i'm converting mine to CD at the mo though

vinyl albums tend to add 10% more compression and distortion, which is what is known as the "analog warmth", it's so far the distinguishing characteristic of those albums

and although you can buy vinyls at most hot topic stores, there's no comparing them to the vintage ones made before '91

cassettes tended to have a thinner, hissier sound, their only advantage was how much more practical and portable they were than vinyls, but by the late 80's they were starting to become obsolete, specially with the introduction of the portable cd players

mp3 has similar fidelity issues, a much more compressed sound, which some people don't even notice, but others tend to spot the difference immediatly

Buy a bunch of these and copy all your music in them.

You'll have the quality of CD sound with the look and feel of a vinyl disc.

i love 45's. vinyl has the best sound, IMO....and theres just something fun about 45's in particular....much more fun than a lame CD.

oh please....vinyl has crap sound.
I was like you when I was young, a vinyl junkie looking for my next fix, perhaps the limited edition vinyl for Ride's carnival of light? perhaps the talking heads picture vinyl, flexi discs anyone?
but then I realized that Cd's might be "cold" but they are a much better format, If I wanted to hear noise and pops while I listen to music, well, I'll listen to black dice thank you very much.
P.S. I hate having to Oh-so-carefully place the needle to the groove, or risk hearing that horrible scratching noise, I guess we define "fun" differently.
