What do I do?Unfortunately I only have a 40gb.I guessing I don't have to buy a new PS3.So what do I buy?

Delete some stuff?

You can't possibly need 40gb worth of game installs & game saves..

I've got the 120gb slim but once my space has gone done too. But then again, I download a ton of demos, and keep lots of media on there (music, movies, photos, etc.) My rule though is, never let it get below 25gb, once it starts getting close to that I start deleting crap and cleaning up.

I hear it's quite easy buy and install a new hard drive with more space. I remember reading some really detailed posts about it here.

Well I just have my game saves(DMC4,Unchrated DF,Star Wars:Unleashed,MUA2,Batman:AA,SC4,DBZ,ETC.) And some demos.

just buy an internal hardrive, u can get a 500 gb one for plenty less than 100 bucks, thats what im gonna do when/if I run out of space

Delete the demos & the games you don't have/play anymore, some of the installs of certain games upon first putting disc into PS3 are over 1GB.

40gb is not that much space at all and I can easily see how someone can run out fast.

Id reccomend getting a new hard drive. They arent expensive and prices are always coming down

Thanks Kalel.By the way when I install the new Hard drive do I lose everything on the old one?I'm not very Tech savvy.

Back everything onto an external before you switch out. Do you have an ipod? That can be used. When you switch in the new harddrive, you can restore the data that you put on the external.

Do note that some gamesaves are copyprotected and can not be backed up. This includes:

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand
Brain Challenge
Crash Commando
Dark Mist
Demon's Souls
Fat Princess
Fight Night Round 4
Godfather 2
Guitar hero 5
High Velocity Bowling
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights
Killzone 2
LocoRoco Cocoreccho!
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Mega Man 9
Mercenaries 2: World In Flames
Mortal Kombat 2
NCAA Football 10
Need For Speed: Carbon
Rock Band
Rock Band 2
Singstar
Skate 2
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online
The Eye Of Judgment
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2
UFC: Undisputed
Wolfenstein
WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010
Star Ocean: The Last Hope

Dragonball Z Burst Limits
Dragonball Raging Blast
Bayonetta
Assassin's Creed II
UNO
Namco Museum Essentials

Got a 500GB Harddrive some time ago. I wonder how long it'll take for the space to run out on that.

No problem.
See Havok's post on backing things up and here's a video showing you everything.

I think this is one of the main reasons why I don't see myself buying a new hard drive. The whole copyprotected thing is so dumb and some of my favorite games I have 100% on are on that list. :csad:

Yeah I don't get it. I mean you can transfer them from PS3 to PS3 (Data Transfer Utility), but not to a stand alone HDD. Kind of silly.

IA with both of you. I do not understand why developers do this. Makes no sense. Heavy Rain's not on that list but its one of them and that pisses me off bc if my PS3 fails again then Id have lost all my progress with that. One of the reasons Ive been intimidated with staring Demon's Souls is bc theres no way to back up that save and I cant imagine putting so many hours into such a difficult game only to lose all that progress

buy a new hard drive

i'm going to upgrade to a 500GB this Christmas

you can find them for around $80 - $100 online

Just delete some s**t. Anything you download like demos and games you bought on the PSN you can always DL again when you really wanna play it.

i bought i ps3 slim with 250gb and i still have 115gb left of free space

I started with a 40 gig but with all the games that have mandatory installs, and dlc and games bought from the psn store (I delete demos once I've played them), that memory got filled up pretty quickly, I got a 120gb slim after that, have about 30 gigs left so I'm probably gonna need to upgrade the hard drive soon

I suppose it wouldn't be alot of you play/own alot of different games &/or maybe store pictures, music, demos, downloads etc on the console.. I had a 60GB one until recently & I had alot of memory left. Then again once I complete a game or trade it in I usually just delete the game saves & install data.

I've a 160GB now I got as a free upgrade direct from Sony after my original PS3 incountered some sort of hardware problem. :P

I've got a 500 GB Western Digital Scorpio Black on a UPS truck headed for my house right now. Got it for $66 on Amazon.

I bought a 640 gig HD at Best Buy for 60 bucks. They have software out that will copy/transfer everything - even copyrighted stuff - from the old HD to the new so you will not lose anything. Even my Rainbow Six saves and game data moved.

Do a spot of research - no need to invest in a new machine when you can just get a new hard driver for much cheaper and download some software for free.

what did you use and how did you do it bc Ive never heard of copyrighted material being able to be transferred. The only way that seems to be possible is to do a full data transfer from 1 PS3 to another, which is useless if you have only one system

I went to download a bunch of stuff off the store as Ive been away from my PS3 for 2 weeks and got a message that I ran out of space so I guess its time for me to invest in a new HDD. Im contemplating what size to get as I currently have a 160gb.
