So You Like Joss Whedon? Well Then...

I suppose, given the... ahem... fervor of a lot of internet posters in getting their views across, she might be somewhat justified. She does acknowledge that her particular brand of feminist is a small, hatefully maligned group. It probably gets tiresome to hear "**** you ****ing feminazi **** ****e blah blah blah etc." all the time.

Well, you've gotta expect that when you consider consensual sex between and man and a woman rape. Rape is a horrible crime against someone and I wouldn't shed a tear if every rapist was shot on the spot, it's not a term to be thrown around as lightly as she is.

That chick was talking alot of trash about Whedon, but all I could hear from her was...
PL-90272A-md.jpg

that made me giggle, even though im a girl those things make me laugh not get all like 'oh you shouldn't post that crap' people got to have a sense of humor right :woot:

Would be funny if someone did post that on her page

Firefly I thought was a good show for strong women and all, so she wasn't watching the same thing really. Maybe she should try Buffy.

Knowing the feminazi, she'd probably complain how Buffy still takes orders from men (the Watchers' Council), say that her tendency to make up words is Whedon's way of saying all women are dumb and that only the female characters get killed.

Sometimes, words cannot describe how much **** the internet.

She'd actually have a fair amount of ammunition with her relationship with Angel. Coming back to a mad who treated her like **** and systematically tried to destroy her on a psychological level could be seen, by someone like this lady, as being pro-battered wife syndrome. I personally see it as Joss liking to show psychological complexity and the complexity of relationships with all of his characters, and emphasizing the fact that Angel isn't pure evil by choice, he has legitimate problems he's constantly trying to combat. But in a debate, technicalities and "what the author probably meant" doesn't mean ****. It's all about how you spin it, and she'd have a field day with that plot line.

I'd like to see her reaction to the time Spike actually did try to rape Buffy.

I can imagine it would be something along the lines of his attempted rape leading to him getting a soul and therefore being portrayed as a positive thing. Damn that sneaky misogynist/rapist Joss Whedon.

Or that time Xander tried to assault her when he was possessed by a hyena.

Yeah, I don't see her liking Buffy more than Firefly . . .

I'd love to see her opinion on that episode where Xander casts a spell that makes all the women madly in love with him.

She'd probably see every attempt by a male character to redeem himself as saying that what he did was okay, and thus be misogynist.

To be fair, I kind of wished they'd just killed Spike off after that myself. That was a really disgusting scene. Granted, unlike this lady, I count that as a positive thing, since it was obviously a conscious artistic choice to show the attempted rape with as much brutal, unadorned honesty as possible, and it created a deeply affecting scene.

Then he would't have been as awesome as he was on Angel now would he?

has anyone forwarded this to any buffy/firefly boards and watch the carnage

As someone who's watched Buffy so sparsely, it's interesting to read about this. I've never really known a whole lot about this and find it interesting to know about Joss Whedon's background and how this came together.

I'm not sure how to take this article. Maybe it's overanalyzed and it needs to simply be determined on it by itself. I don't know enough to take a stance.

Saw this on fireflyfans.net & this is what I had to say:

Thats some of the biggest pile of ***** ever to grace the internet & she has the issues not Joss, she's taken almost everything out of context & skipped writing & trying to give an explanation as why the characters have done most of the actions.

And for the commenter's who agree with her go back to your tv & watch what you think is the holygrail of sci-fi that is Episode 1-3.

Firefly is awesome & Joss in particular is a man who stands up for women equality even supports a charity (Equality Now) which us Browncoats raise thousands of dollars for every year.

I really don't get why I read beyond the first paragraph of this disgraceful essay BS.

She talked about Mal giving Zoe orders and how the order were "stupid"...she has probably never served or know anyone that serves in the military...Mal is the captain and she is the XO or number one or whatever and you follow the orders of your superior officer...

I think people such as the article's author probably don't believe in the principles behind the military; she probably simply perceives the whole 'chain of command' concept as another form of elitist male-dominated fighting for domination and has no comprehension that had their ranks been reversed, Mal would've been the one taking orders from Zoe and saying "yes sir/ma'am".

yeah exactly, it's fun:woot:

honestly i'm surprised no one actually didn't e-mail whedon's site with it, watch him tear her apart

The fact that she accused him of raping his wife would probably turn it into something nasty. I mean, most writers can take criticism of work, especially really out there criticism. But anyone being accused of of seriously abusing someone they care about is going to get a bit ticked.

What's Whedons official site? I'll e-mail it to him right now.
