NOTE: Before you flame me, be aware that I am not necessarily buying into this. I just thought it would be a good idea to report it. People are taking this very seriously, so it raises concern.
Not sure if anyone has heard of this, but there seems to be quite a few people who firmly believe that something on a grand-scale, perhaps terrorism, or even a natural disaster, is being "orchestrated" in Denver, Colorado on September 23, 2011. And if not that date, it is rumored to be between the 23rd and the 27th. President Obama is scheduled to visit on the 27th.
Some suggested that it is the comet "Elenin":

This comet was predicted to hit Earth on Sept. 23.
The event is called Operation Mountain Guardian, and some residents have received e-mails from the state of Denver to be warned of full-scale military presence.

They are officially being regarded as "exercises", though many residents are strongly disagreeing.
It has been suggested that this is a cover-up of huge proportions, and that the quote above is the ONLY link that mentions an invitation to the media.
"This is the only news site with the exception of blogs, tweets and facebook posts discussing it. If the purpose of the advisory is to disseminate information to the public ahead of time why can't I even find this in google news. None of the sites reference a source either."

And it doesn't stop there.
Reports are coming in that it's happening in Kentucky.

Most residents aren't even being informed at all:
Please don't shoot the messenger. If it turns out to be a hoax, fantastic. But this was a legitimate thing to ponder over.

Please be advised that on Friday, 9/23/11, a terrorism-based, full-scale emergency exercise will take place in multiple locations around the Denver Metro area. The exercise will involve first responders from 81 different agencies, will be conducted at ten separate locations, and will include loud noises, simulated weapons, smoke, emergency vehicles and other equipment that will be audible and visible throughout the day. Please see the attached document for additional information. Two of the locations are Park Meadows Mall and Sky Ridge Medical Center so don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of activity in these locations.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Emergency responders and law enforcement officials at Fort Campbell, Ky., will conduct a full-scale exercise to practice their ability to respond to a crisis.
Col. Perry Clark, the garrison commander for the installation on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line, said in a news release that the exercise starting Wednesday will help them assess response systems in a realistic training environment and rehearse their cooperation with federal, state and local organizations.
Fort Campbell will coordinate with several local agencies from surrounding communities including Clarksville, Montgomery and Stewart counties in Tennessee and Oak Grove and Trigg County in Kentucky.
Most residents aren't even being informed at all:
"I live here in Denver, nothing SO FAR has been announced on the local news. Hopefully that changes because some people are gonna freak if they aren't informed by then."
"I live in Denver and haven't seen or heard anything about this, thanks OP. I checked the two local news sites I frequent and didn't see any articles either."
"I am in Charlotte, NC and I work for a top financial firm with a huge presence here. Our campus has about 3,000 people. And guess what? We are having a safety exercise on Friday. The whole campus will be evacuated and all workers sent home at 2:15. In all my years in Corporate America I have never been sent home for a safety drill. I have been involved in many and we do them at least once a year at every company I have worked for. Usually we evacuate the buildings and stand around outside for 20 minutes while the fire department searches the building, etc. But I have never been sent home. Even on 9/11 we were at work until 3pm before they finally sent us home. Maybe its just a coincidence? But its certainly an interesting one."
