Your opinion isn't valid, neither is mine, so just drop it.
yet, he's still loved by so many

Ok...I see what you mean.okay, I need to chime into this discussion.
you are correct speedball the Guy from Flaming Lips can't "sing"in a Kelly Clarkson sort of way, he is not a "competent" singer under that category.
the thing we're lloking for is, does he convey the feeling of a given song through his othewise "bad" singing voice?
I'm my case, he does.
and I find more sentiment in 15 of his songs that I could find in the entire Mariah Carey catalogue, when she is infact a great "singer" from a technical standpoint.
But most would say rip-off.well, if you listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit", it basically sounds like your regular Pixies song, so while some may call it a rip off, other might say it's just inspiration
LOL!!!Fuel's "Falls on Me" kinda sounds like Collective Soul's "Heavy".
The Alphabet song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.![]()
I can assume you're not a songwriter, right?But most would say rip-off.
I agree. I just looked the flaming lips up on youtube. Pure unadultarated suck!^The Flaming Lips should be sued. They suck.
but you must also take into account that Puff Daddy has made a career out of being totally unoriginal and devoid of any musical talent whatsoeverPuff Daddy used "The Polices" "Every Breath You Take" song & reworked it as a tribute for Biggie Smalls but Sting participated with that I believe so does that count?
Puff Daddy aslo used "Led Zepplin's" song "Cashmere" & reworked it & called the new version Come With Me for the Godzilla 98 soundtrack but Jimmy Page worked on that so does that count?

Which songs make you wonder how come someone didn't file lawsuit?
For example:
Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean - Jesus Christ, I liked this song better when it was called Billie Jean. It's almost exactly the same: same synth bassline, same guitar riff, same keyboard sounds, there's even a vocal melody that mirrors MJ's "love on the run/I am the one".
It's not about a sweater, son.Puff Daddy aslo used "Led Zepplin's" song "Cashmere" & reworked it & called the new version Come With Me for the Godzilla 98 soundtrack but Jimmy Page worked on that so does that count?
it's the same song, Stone Gossard wrote it and Chris Cornell used it for Temple Of The Dog and Eddie Vedder used it for Pearl Jam... it's not like Stone Gossard is going to sue himself for taking a song he wrote and was used in two of the bands where he playsPearl Jam's "footsteps" is teh EXACT same song as Temple of the Dog's "times of trouble" but with different lyrics.
a band i was in a few years ago ripped off a pitboss 2000 song w/o even realising it.
Yes, I am, not that it matters.I can assume you're not a songwriter, right?
I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit.
Heh, this I agree with.but you must also take into account that Puff Daddy has made a career out of being totally unoriginal and devoid of any musical talent whatsoever
Yeah, samples=/=rip offs.
- They're samples, so no.
- Its "Kashmir".
Umm, I know what the song says. I'm pointing out how similar the vocal melodies from these two lines are, Billy's "...no love on the run..." and MJ's "...I am the one...".The original actually says "She says I am the one. But the kid is not my son"
Trust me I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan. I know the song by heart.
it's nice to find common grounds, now let's have a beer and plan the assassination of P.Diddy or whatever his name is this weekHeh, this I agree with.
