Songs: The Original Vs. The Cover

It's relevant.

How?

I don't see the relevance.

I posted a comparison, said which version I found superior.

JP responded with a sarcastic "no."

I responded with a sarcastic "yes."

I really don't see the relevance.

But to answer your question, I'd probably listen to it, let out a resounding "Why" at its agonizing badness, and move on with my life.

apparently both good versions of brown eyed girl (van morrison and everclear) are not on youtube.

anyways i think everclears version is better.

It's relevant because this thread is not only for discussing existing songs and their covers, but also for potential covers as well.

Another awesome cover.

Led Zeppelin-Battle of Evermore

Lovemongers (aka Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart)-cover from Singles soundtrack

[YT]knUWKji706M[/YT]

I personally like Led Zep's better but I also think this is the best Zep cover done.

(btw, am i the only one whose parents continously played this cd when he was a child? I've been told it Singles soundtrack was a big deal in '92 lol)

I wonder if Chris Cornell thought covering "Billie Jean" was a good idea...

You know you love 'em...sometimes. I would like to see what other people think about cover songs. Do you have a favorite, or just one you absolutely despise? Is the cover better than the original, or just a hollow copy to you. I tend to love a good cover song. They usually are pretty fun when done right. Some of my favorites are probably by the White Stripes. I love the song Jack the Ripper. But my favorite right now that I listen to on a constant basis, is Hey Ya by Obadiah Parker. This stripped down version is way better for me, and it actually sounds meaningful in some way.

Johnny Cash's cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus

[YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQcNiD0Z3MU[/YT]

Cash was the king of making songs his own. From The Beatles to Sting, he could kill every song.

Jimmi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" was easily 1000x better than Dylan's.

"Halleleujah"

Original: Leonard Cohen
Cover: Jeff Buckley

Buckley's version is ****in brilliant.

"Wicked Game"

Original: Chris Isaak
Cover: HIM

Like both. Prefer HIM.

I also love Living Colour's versions of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" and "Sunshine Of Your Love".
