Animation Sony's K-pop: Demon Hunters

Put “What it Sounds like” in front and you’d have my ranking.

What it Sounds Like is one that I think the sequence in the movie affects my opinion of the most.

Yes to the sequels and animated series. Ew to the live action remake.

This movie was specifically made with animation in mind and it’s a huge part of what makes everything else in the movie work the way it does. Animation is a core part of it’s identity and what gives the movie it’s charm, like the hypermanic and energetic character movements, the quirky anime-isms and expressions, the action, the surrealist and impressionistic elements. Without any of those things, it’s just another bland, washed-out, uncanny live action remake and anime adaptation that misses the point of what made the original so great.

I mean, can you even imagine or picture the live action attempts at the “How It’s Done” or “Your Idol” sequences, or even the bathhouse scene, with actual actors trying to do all of that crazy choreography at that speed and energy? The result will either be a dull, low energy effort or an uncanny nightmare, and nothing in between. I absolutely shudder to think.

And you know they will absolutely try shoehorn non-Asian and/or non-Korean actors into this to appeal to American audiences, despite the fact this was still successful even without needing that.

No. Absolutely not. Some things are and should stay animated for a reason.

I do suspect that desire for live action is in order to get a live action Huntrix out there to start doing tours.

That and maybe possibly a few new songs as well. Those are about the only two upsides I can see to something like this.

They cannot allow a live action version to happen. It is not going to work and may damage the brand.

But concerts and tours. They could milk this brand for 10 years. :o

I hate this timeline. Live action version planned right after a new animated movie is a hit.

sigh
Could be worse, Avi Arad could attach himself to the live action version.

I will remain curious what would have happened if that had gotten a theatrical release at the time it released on Netflix.

I have no desire to watch it. But please stream Takedown and Strategy by Twice. They are my favorite K-pop artist since 2020.

I am a Once.

This was way more fun than I imagined but the animation was nicely done with some nice detail and anime style touches to give it a bit more visual flair and uniqueness for some funny moments. The action was nicely done as well though and clean.

The songs were obviously very well done, catchy pop tunes and really well produced, they needed to be to really sell this but they were just that.

Would love a prequel set way in the past of this that we got glimpses of at the start but I imagine they will want to keep it modern to maintain the pop songs and social media angle, appeal to the youth market etc. Solid fun though.

PS: Zoey is my spirit animal.
