I did a browse through a few pages and I couldn't really find a solid answer, so I'm just wondering, since we're a couple weeks away from release...

Is this a full on reboot? Or merely just a prequel?

I haven't been hyping this film as much as I'd have hoped, considering all the talk of it being a reboot (I despise that idea).

But considering how much I haven't been following this film, I don't know if it's actually just gonna be a prequel (which I'm fine with) or not.

In terms of the countinuty(which there was very little of between the last 20 films aside from the odd mention of Tracy here and there) yes it is full on restart, back to the beginning of the story set in a moderen context. The movie would never work and was never intended to be a prequel.

It's not that bad really. I have the script and it's still very much a Bond film. The only way it would work as a prequel would be if they did as a period peice and set it pre the original Dr. No. IMO that wouldn't work because it wouldn't have the present day relevence that Casino Royale has. By overtly rebooting the series the producers have made it believable and it no where near as silly as the Moore or Brosnan films but is more along the lines of Dr. No or From Russia in Love in terms of style and exectuion. You can't seriously believe that Connery's Bond from Dr. No and Brosnan's existed in the same timeline can you?

I don't get why people have the big deal with the whole reboot/prequel thing.

I don't know whether its a prequel/reboot or whatever. Who cares? If its a good bond film with a good script and good actors, so what?

Its not as if Diamonds are forever has anything to do with OHMSS or Licence to Kill has anything to do with Moonraker. How for example would you know if Diamonds Are Forver was made before OHMSS if you weren't a bond fan? You'd have a hard time telling IMO.

This was always going to come, Casino Royale was always being tried to be made by cubby, the rights were always up in the air so he couldn't do it but if he did do it with say, sean connery or roger moore, i don't think people would have made the fuss they have now.

You have to understand Nell it was time for a change. The only good Bond movie(in my opinion) that I enjoyed Brosnan in was GoldenEye. That was the last film that actually felt like a Bond movie.

Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, and The World Is Not Enough just got stupid and too cliche for their own good. I like Pierce and all, but even he couldn't save those scripts or those movies.

Casino Royale is a James Bond movie that's back to his roots. It's dark, gritty, violent, suspenseful, and of course there's a violent torture scene that is going to have EVERYONE in the theater squirming, wincing, and possibly leaving. In the end it was time for a reboot.

Only problem would be, well not actually a problem producers chose wrong actor for the role but hey we see...

Only time will tell. I think he'll do good. Remember, you had some people denouncing Tobey Maguire and Christian Bale too.

i don't know about Tobey Maguire when he cast in 2001 was it 2000? I wasn't on here but Christian Bale one everyone in Batman board wanted him 90% 95% but with Craig, Bond fans are 50/50 on this.

Fair enough. I wasn't on here when Tobey was casted for Spider-Man, but I remember reading how a lot of fans were in an uproar over it. Many felt he was too small, too innocent looking, and didn't have the right frame for Spider-Man.

Ultimately his performance and dedication to the role won the fans over afterwards.

I know some people who hated the choice of Christian Bale because he wasn't Michael Keaton.

^That always got me as far as Tobey being innocent looking. When has Peter Parker ever been drawn as anything but innocent? Except when artists take extreme liberties with him.

*shrugs* I just remember reading about how a lot of hardcore fans felt Tobey looked too innocent, too sweet and nerdy, too small, and didn't have what it took to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Right now the only complaints that I hear about Tobey is how he doesn't say any quips, which really isn't his fault to begin with.

In the end not everyone is going to be happy with a particular actor getting a specific role. I feel the one you least expect is the one who does a better job. Granted, we knew Bale would own as Wayne/Batman, but who's to say Craig won't do a great job either?

That's what I like about his casting. It's such an unlikely choice and I like that it gives Bond a more weathered rough look instead of the handsome charming guy.

Like I wasn't happy about Thomas Jane being The Punisher at first, but his performance and his dedication to the role won me over.

Thats what I dont get. Craig isn't ugly and from what I've seen he looks as though he can be charming. Charm has nothing to do with look, its all about style. Craig isn't a pretty boy but that doesn't mean he's ugly, people need to make the differenciation. Craig will surprise many many many people.

I may have had my questions answered for me.

The commercials and stuff I've seen all just say "see how Bond became Bond", which heavily implies just a prequel.

Which I'm cool with. A prequel is fine. I just don't want a reboot. How do you reboot a series that's gone 20 movies strong, and doesn't have much continuity anyways?

And for the record, from what I've seen, Craig seems like he'll make a fine Bond.

Brosnan is still my favorite, but I think I'll like Daniel Craig.
