Who do you think will have the biggest opening? And furthermore, make the most money? I was having this conversation with a friend today. He thinks Pirates will be a bigger film, thoughts?

Sadly, probably Pirates.

It's a Disney film and kids love it.

I hope Spider-Man 3 wins though. You know it will be the better film.

Here's another question: Spider-Man 3 or Shrek 3?

I think PotC will win the box office, but Spider-Man 3 will be the better movie.

honestly i think spidey will win. the spider-man franchise has consistently delivered a GREAT movie with action AND an interesting plot. POTC certainly achieved that with the first movie, but MANY fans were extremely dissapointed with the sequel, claiming it was just and eye candy action fest with no real plot like the first.

now that is all opinion of the general movie goers i have talked with, so only time will tell, i'm rootin' for Spidey though!

spider-man3. the story, action, and overall emotion and intensity in this film looks to be way better than POTC films. I mean the first two spidey films were so succesful and were actually the highest grossing Comic Book films ever. I'm expecting spidey3 to even be better than the first two films. POTC3 better watch out because spidey3 is coming to kick butt!!.

maybe we could get a poll going to try and predict the outcome...i guess that would be a little biased around these parts of the woods

That's a good one seeing as how it opens on may 18. Well spidey 2's opening weekend gross was $115 million and shrek 2's was $108 million but Shrek was released a month before before. I'm hoping Venom will attract a larger crowd this time around. I guess it depends on how much they push him in the TV spots. I really hope Spidey sticks at number 1 for a while. If anything Shrek will definitely be right on it's ass. Hopefully the 5 or 6 times I see Spiderman opening weekend will make up for a few of the kids going to see Shrek 3 with their family.

Hopefully Spidey.:yay: Going to be interesting seeing how these two films perform.

I obviously would prefer Spidey 3 to trounce both films but something tells me it won't happen. If it does then WOO and of course HOO but we will see...

General consensus is that SM3 will be a better movie (biased on this board of course, but overall I believe to be true given the themes of both movies).

Pirates 2 sucked really REALLY hard. The entire movie made no sense, characters showed no depth of emotion or consistency to each other in the WHOLE movie. I have never been more displeased with a sequel, (including x-men 3). Ex.) Jack Sparrow escapes the pearl on a dingy to the nearby island, yet goes back to the ship because of guilt. However it is specifically said, that the crab only wanted to kill Jack, and not the rest of the crew. So, why did it continue to attack the ship? Makes no sense...

Spider-man 3 on the other hand, closes the themes and ideas of both of the first 2 movies, includes crazy special effects and immense battles. Much better story, much better content, much better movies.

All in all, Pirates will probably win over SM3. Transformers will do as good as Pirates, if not better.

really, i dont think so, i mean of course transformers has a huge fanbase of all ages, but a lot of people aren't excited about the direction it is taking...:trans:

I think SM3 has a good chance of beating Pirates, but Pirates will probably still win. Although, Pirates is what, about two months away, and I haven't seen anywhere near the amount of advertising SM3 has had.

true, they are banking on the success of the second one to sell the third, and it will, but its a risky move...might come back to bite in the end

alot of people werent excited about the direction x3 was taking.actuall that movie wouldve been even bigger if it was good. 108 mil first weekend then 30 mil next. iif it was good it wouldve probably got to 300mil.

oh yea i dont know which will win but im seeing them both because pirates 2 was great and ive been dying to see it ever since i saw the ending to pirates 2. spiderman 3 better be the best in the franchise or ill be dissapointed. along with pirates 3. both will easily make 300 mil but i dont know what happens after that.

Down with shrek!

It depends. the stories/drama in the spidey movies are kind of drabby and lack the compelling excitement they should have imo. However, sm3 has a lot going on in this film this time round, especialy with the whole Pete going dark and the introduction of Gwen, to stirr up Pete's relationship with MJ.
Its honestly hard to say but I suppose, I'd be more surprised if sm3 came out on top.

Spider-Man 3 is going to get more than Pirates 3 for one reason

Venom

yeah I say spidey 3 will win for sure, plus it has a head start over the other movies.

Spidey 3 has the advantage as far as hype goes, but the Pirates franchise has proven that even without overhype, the movie will sell tickets like crazy.

I just watch the new Pirates trailer over You tube. Its dubbed in russian, but all I can say is, Jack Sparrow swordfighting Dave Jones over the sg]hip during a storm. If I wasn't a Spidey fan, I would say that Pirates will kick Spidey's ass.

I REALLY hope that Spiderman 3 beats out Pirates. I saw both Pirates films and I'm not a big fan of them. I don't know what the fuss is about anyways? Is it that Johnny Depp is in it? He's an okay actor, not the greatest. Anyway, while I hope Spidey beats Pirates, judging from the box office results of last year, I think Pirates may come out on top.

Has anyone here picked up the new issue of Wizard yet? It talks about Spidey 3, Shrek 3, & POTC 3 & talks about some sort of outcome. I was gonna buy it but I dunno, I wanted to check on the boards first. Is it worth buying?

The trailers are up for each movie...so what do you think now???

I really can't see validation in saying "POTC3 will do better because little kids love Disney movies". I don't usually say one character will make or break a film, but you'd be surprised how many little kids are more enamored with Venom than they are with Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow is popular, but Venom is the antithesis of a character little kids around the world adore. The [blackout]possible death of Venom[/blackout] may be a little dark, but many kids today see rated-R films and probably won't be scared so much as disappointed because children tend to wish for never-ending bouts of awesomeness. So no, children won't be flocking to POTC as much as people seem to think they will just because it's Disney. Jack Sparrow is something they see in their free time. Spider-Man is the hero they plaster images of on their pajamas and backpack.

And do I even have to say why Shrek won't be a serious contender?
