Rothman and Avi Arad are known micromanagers so don't bet on them leaving directors alone.

It doesn’t indicate that Arad is back in the mix for the main Spider-Man films, just Venom and potential crossovers. Amy Pascal is still in the mix as a producer, and Rothman likes her.

Feige sung her praises while doing press for Homecoming, so she can act as a buffer between Rothman and director John Watts (or whoever is directing the third Holland film).

Sony will be either begging Marvel after the Sony-Spiderman goes back to their usual numbers or (hopefully) after their accountants look at the numbers. With Marvel only getting 5% from the last 2 movies, Sony took in ~1.6B profit. Since Feige was the mind behind, is it fair for Marvel to only get 5%? Sony is trying to spin it as Disney greed, and I can concede that 50/50 (including expenses) might be too rich for Sony's blood, the 5% was like the intro offer you get on credit cards. 5% for the 1st 2 movies. After that the rate changes. Option 2 is, when Sony flops (by comparison) again, Disney just buys them up for Spiderman, and then dumps the rest.

It is Sony's property and they paid for the movie to be made. Disney/Marvel got their percentage of the movie $$$ (at no expense on their part), plus they still own the Spidey merchandising which makes more yearly than any Spidey movie. Neither corporation has lost out with the current deal.

Campea said he read that Sony offered 70/30 instead 0f 50/50 and Disney still didn't accept this and he talks to a few inside peeps

He did say he got the sense from the Disney source that this isn't a done deal.

Personally I think Alan Horne is starting to lose the plot.
Sony should settle it at 65/35 and call it a day.

By the way, the 5% is Marvel's fee for licensed properties. That's what Marvel makes from every movie not under the MCU umbrella.
What the deal was for Spider-Man is Spidey would appear in the MCU, 2 solo movies and 3 not solo movies. Disney makes 100% from their movies and Sony makes 100% from the solo movies (minus the standard 5% licensing fee).

Maybe Disney feels playing in the MCU sandbox is worth a much big fee.
People are raging at Sony, Sony has done nothing wrong. I'm sure Sony would have been happy to continue with the deal in its previous incarnation. I think Sony would be happy to increase the fee, but a 500% increase? **** off.

I realize the 50% is also because Disney is shouldering 50% of the fee but I'm sure Ony would rather make 100% of 750-800m than 50% of a billion.

Disney are easily entitled to ask for more than 5% first day gross and from the latest report it sounds like it's Sony who are being unreasonable and unwilling to negotiate.

I'm sure there is a compromise that can be found if Sony get their head out of their asses and realise that the world wants Spidey in the MCU and that they can't produce films of the same quality as the MCU.

Sony have Rothman in charge, he is a complete and utter moron and should be nowhere near this.

5% is definitely way too low. Apparently Disney was just after 30% which is still very low plus Sony would have access to merchandising at Disney world which is worth millions. Sony should have taken it

Apparently Tom Holland unfollowed Sony & Sony Pictures on his Instagram account. I don't know what this means beyond being frustrated in the moment, but I hope this doesn't get drawn out and become too much of a soap opera in the media.
The boycott has begun!

Hopefully this would cancel that Tom Holland Uncharted movie too.

The people that are happy with Spider-Man being pulled out of the MCU, let's see if you're still happy when Marvel works their way up to the next big crossover event years down the line with X-Men, FF, and the rest of the MCU heroes and Spider-Man isn't part of the excitement.

Don't you remember Pascal was calling Feige about ways to improve the TASM series or how when Homecoming came out, Pascal was like yeah, Venom is also in the MCU (paraphrasing). Think Feige gave an awkward smile.

Yeah, great hands.

Reports now saying Tom Holland definitely has an option to walk away from a 3rd film if that's true...yikes

You guys remember that story about Pascal throwing a sandwich at feige?Feige? Lmao God I hope that's true

While I wouldn't necessarily say I'm happy about it, there is in some way a certain kind of relief from it, but this is assuming the X-Men and FF are recognizable as their characters really and whether or not I think SM is recognizable as that character strongly. To me part of the fun is seeing the character engage with the others, and after CW I don't think we've had that strongly. Peter had what I think was a nice dramatic scene with Tony where he expressed his perceptions about things. In IW I think of it more as he has some fun interactions, but it's mostly there to make Tony cry, solid scene I think, but still. And then in EG I think he's just there for Tony's angst and to cry about Tony. I

He's still following them on Twitter, though.

If Holland walks I think they will go with Miles Morales rather than reboot.

It would really suck for Holland to leave. He's was great , just as I thought he would be when he was cast.

That said, he's played the role 5 times , so he's put in his dues. He's played the role more than times Maguire and Garfield , so If he wanted to move on ,I wouldn't blame him.

I still tend to think Holland may do at least one more . I don't see how walking away for the sake of Disney's would really be the best move for him, regardless of the nerd rage over the Sony/Disney debacle .

Now, if he sees that the next script stinks , then that gives him a strong enough reason to bounce.

Yeah I think he'll wait and see what happens.

However if this is true the narrative that Sony can just force him to do it is out the window lol

That wouldn't be in Tom Holland's best interest.. once you lose the iconic role, you lose importance in Hollywood, this is especially true if you are not so well known actor.

They are better off to reboot again.

Have a 20-something Spidey that's been existing in the Venom/Morbius/Sony Universe and utilize him as a supporting character for a bit. Self-made, money problems, driven by responsibility, etc.

I think the audience saw the tribute to Stan in theaters plus his final cameos. I highly doubt that no one from Marvel Studios sent a condolence or the like myself.

Didn't Stan Lee's daughter mistreat him and just take money from him?
