Not sure how I feel about Foxx's Electro coming back other than I hope he looks completely different and we find out he somehow uses his power to get into the MCU. Then we can get an explanation for why the X-Men and FF never appeared until now. I just really wish it was Dr. Oct but I guess that would make his sacrifice in Spider-Man 2 pointless.

I don't think the FF need an explanation on how they get into the MCU. They were there, didn't have powers yet. Easy. The X-Men I see other avenues than MULTIVERSE!!! We have the Celestial, the snap, etc.

I find blaming everything on MULTIVERSE to be lazy writing

Yea same. I don’t want Xmen to be part of the multiverse. However you could tell in the raimi films other heroes did exist. They alluded to it. The whole dr strange comment and aunt May’s speech about heroes

I would actually be kind of curious to see them attempt to translate the comic look to the screen.

I really hope they go with a green and yellow suit this time around.

Personally i don't see this as a sign that Electro is gonna be the main villain. i am surprised anyone is coming to that conclusion. i am expecting to hear about more actors who played Spider-man villains coming back from other movies. i don't see this as Feige wanting to bring back the same actor so he can make his own Electro. that just makes no sense to me at all.

He did it for Jameson. So Feige has already done it

But again, circumstances for JK Simmons' return were different. Foxx's Electro (through no fault of his own and more the script) wasn't really beloved, so I would find it really puzzling for Feige to bring him back to play another version of Electro with nothing multiverse-related going on just because he liked him in ASM2.

I don't see why you're so perplexed that people are debating a possible multiverse reason. :/

So, now it's likely that Tobey is going to show up in Doctor Strange's Multiverse of madness movie. I expect Sam Raimi to bring Tobey into MCU.
If this happens, I will end up tearing up. Will it happen? Who knows, but there's a good chance.

I am not perplexed. Perplexed would indicate that I don't understand why some suggest it. That is not true. I understand why it is discussed. I just don't agree with the conclusion. I don't think it is what they're doing, and if it ends up being some multiverse thing, I think it is pretty stupid.

With Doctor strange opening the door for other universes. i dunno why anyone would totally dismiss the concept that they might do this.

Sounds like WB are doing it too with The Flash. it just seems to be a thing thats happening.

There seems to be a recognition lately that they don't know how things wil turn out. they don't know how long they will be making movies before they end up rebooting. so they are embracing the past and its content rather than being scared to acknowledge it.

It was also reported some time ago that Evan Peters filmed something for Wanda Vision. and speculating he might be playing Quicksilver from the X-Men movies. while some also argued naaah he is playing a different character. and its like really? its a really strange move to bring this actor in and putting him next to the actress playing Wanda. way to strange to be a coincidental casting

But 1 project doing it doesn't mean they all will be doing it. At this point, we have no build to a Spiderverse event. So forcing Electro in here as some type of multiverse catalyst doesn't work for me. Frankly, using THIS Electro at all doesn't work for me, but if this is tied to forcing a live action Spiderverse down our throats before we have a proper build to it, then gag me. I can't think of a more unappealing direction.

Regardless if this is tied to multiverse garbage or not, this went from being my top MCU film of next year in hype level to 4th. Heck, I may be more interested in Venom Let There Be Carnage at this point.

Since when did that matter in these Spider-man MCU movies. when has anything been built up? i tell you right now years ago if someone said Aunt may will find out he is spider-man after 1 movie some would have said naah it needs to be built up to be more impactful. nope the cool factor is just to do it.

Infact the whole everyone knowing he is spider-man thing. i don't see that being a huge part of the next movie. its just too complicated to deal with. they need to reset the world knowing somehow. either that or will just be thrown aside like with Aunt may.

Let Multiverse Of Madness come out so we can truly see what direction their heading. Also it seems to me that you dismissing the possibility of a live-action Spider-Verse happening has more to do with you personally disliking the idea rather than any possible likelihood. :/

It's possible SM3 won't be Spider-Verse, but if there are bread crumbs in Multiverse Of Madness and SM3 building up to an eventual live-action Spider-Verse movie, I don't see how that would be rushed at all.

You are aware as of right now, Spider-Man is coming out first right? Unless they swap release dates down the line, Spidey is December 2021, Doctor Strange is March 2022. So, if release dates hold, then bread crumbs won't matter in Doctor Strange 2 cause we will have seen the Spider-Man movie already

Not exactly the same thing. Does it feel natural to try and build off the world finding out Peter is Spider-Man by making a sequel about a gigantic multiversal disaster? Doesn't to me.

Yeah but Wanda vision is coming out before that, and thats meant to be a lead into Doctor Strange, so they are already sorta preparing the concept.

But Spider-Man 3 is not Doctor Strange 2. The concept of the multiverse has already been introduced into the MCU. So we know it is a thing. Yeah, Wandavision will build into Doctor Strange 2. But that still doesn't mean Spider-Man 3 is a branch for Doctor Strange 2.

I am not against the multiverse at all. But I am against over using it or doing stupid things with it. Using the worst cinematic Spider-Man villain to kick off a Spiderverse plot line we didn't have to introduce yet qualifies as being stupid to me. But, as we are still working on bridging the Sony movies and the MCU together, I don't think they are going to use Electro that way yet. I think he is just going to be a cog in the Sinister Six plot line. That makes more sense to me cause clearly prior Spidey films and Morbius are building toward that direction.

The only appropriate response I could think of for this news

Well lets look at it like this.

1. Who knows how long Spider-man will be part of the MCU for. the last time they tried to settle a deal it didn't go that smooth so if you are gonna take advantage of what the MCU is currently doing in this phase... then it should be now

2. I assume with this deal that marvel make their most from Spider-man merchandise. so as much as some would like to believe its all from the bottom of their heart to give us these movies... its actually about how many action figures they can sell... and they could sell quite alot with a multiverse story.

3. Doctor strange 2 can be the expanded MCU universes. Spider-man could just be for the Spider-man universes

4. Its a unique cross over that seems to be becoming a thing with WB and Marvel.

The idea of bringing back Foxx to play a new version of the same character is such a strange thought and makes little sense to me.

1. Plenty of award-winning actors out there who can play the character. or even popular actors of the time. plenty of them.

2. If Feige likes Jamie Foxx as electro then why would he change him? its a flawed mix up of logic.

3. Plenty of new villains they could use. so why Electro played again by Jamie Foxx? maybe because he won't be the only one making an appearance?

Given the MCU stuff in the Morbius trailer and news of things like Spider-Woman possibly being a MCU production as well (rumor based on statements by the director), then I feel like the Sony/Marvel relationship may not be wedged anytime soon. It looks like they're going more in than out even if the Spidey deal ends after the next film.

As for the arguments for Jamie Foxx, I don't disagree on this being needless. I think this is fairly dumb. But again, JK is playing a different JJ. Many of the same arguments against doing that apply to JK Simmons as well. Yet, here we are.

I think fans default to multiverse way too much. Seems like a catch all excuse. Want the FF in the MCU? Multiverse! The X-Men coming into MCU, multiverse! If every answer moving forward is just multiverse nonsense, then the MCU is going to start feeling lazy and uninteresting to me. The multiverse is a great concept, let's use it responsibly.

I'm curious how Ms. Marvel will get her powers as the stones are gone and they haven't introduced mutants yet, but I doubt it's going to be "because of the multiverse."

Well she's an Inhuman, though I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they changed that for the show.

I ****ing hate the idea of using the multiverse to introduce the F4 and X-Men. Let the multiverse exist to introduce previous iterations of characters like Jackman, Maguire, Garfield, etc;. Additionally, it would be fun to see what if? scenarios such as Cruise as Iron Man. I’d love to see the Marvel Zombies as well.

But there MUST be a MCU version of X-Men and the F4 that exists and is generated from the main universe. No multiverse stuff unless they’re showing alternate versions of these characters.

Ideally I’d strongly prefer the Sinister Six to be populated with villains from one universe as well. I’m open to the Spider-Verse introducing previous iterations of characters, but I still want to see a MCU Doc Ock and Green Goblin played by actors other than Molina and Dafoe.
