Why not? It happened in New Avengers #1 didn't it?

Heh... that was a bit of a head scratcher too. I mean considering how much weight Spider-man can press, I'd imagine his arm would not snap like a twig so easily.

I read New Avengers #1, tho I dont recall him breaking anything.
I don't read NA.
In Reign #1 it seemed stupid how his arm got broken, as in that would not happen to Spidey.

Yeah he gets his arm broken by... um, I dunno... Was it Jigsaw?
Bendis claimed this was possible because Jigsaw had "leverage".

Fiiinally got my hands on Reign #1.

I'm intrigued enough to want to continue to read it, but it's going to have to really develop some legs in upcoming issues, because I have serious mixed feelings about the first.

Strong, strong, strong overtones of Dark Knight Returns, and it's not just in the "old retired superhero returns to action" story. One can do that story without treading in Frank Miller's footsteps, and in fact, if one is doing a story like this, one should take deliberate steps to distance oneself from DKR. Andrews doesn't take these steps -- in fact, there are times when the book feels more like a tribute to DKR than a Spider-Man story. The ruthlessly oppressive government, the broken retired hero with nothing but unhappiness behind him living a wasted life, the "stupid old man" line, the mask as separate entity... it's all very, very DKR.

I thought Old JJJ rocked, though (he was recognizably himself, even if Parker wasn't), and I liked the art style.

Not closing the door on this yet, though I'm not turning cartwheels of glee either.

Read issue one and loved it!
DKR ripp off or not it wass an entertaining read.
Look forward to issue two and the cover to number 4 is scary and cool.
Will be interesting to see what Venom is like as an old man.

why do most of the cover depict some type of or doing with death. #1 mary jane's grave, #2 spiderman getting his throat cut, and #4 spiderman getting bit in half?

Because Andrews really wants the characters to 'feel pain' (like Clubber in Rocky III, ahahahahah), have you read the newsarama feature w/ Andrews?
He is quite amusing. heh,

...and #3 has Spidey inside a coffin.

I haven't checked out any of these Spider-man Reign comics, are they worth checking out?

Issue one of a four issue series just came out last week and was reported to have sold out in many stores. Marvel are now going to print w/ a second run of issue one featuring an alternate cover.

Yeah its worth checking out, it's an entertaining read.
Though it is proving to be quite controversial as it seems after issue one to many readers to be a shameless rip off of Batman's DKR.

It definetly ain't original. It is the same 1984 world we've already seen. Albeit if IRon Man wins perhaps this is what Civil War would yield. This is the Marvel universe at its darkest and takes the premise of a retired and forgotten supehrero who has lost everything coming out of retirment to save his city out of disgust of what has become of people.

It also is a look at how we treat (or rather mistreat) our elderly, which is a nice touch that while touched upon wasn't as focal in DKR. Otherwise it is a very similar storyline.

However, it is very entertaining and engaging and honestly the first good Spider-Man story in the last 3 years IMO (after the "good JMS" run ended with 508 and Jenkins and Millar were odne there has been very little left of interest in teh series).

Oh well.

I got a question about this mini series. I was finally able to get the first issue this week wasnt able to get it last week when it came out. My question is one of the comic store workers at the store i go to said the title might be getting pulled due to the dream sex scene of old peter and mj in issue 1 is there any truth to this cause it would suck. The story seems interesting and i cant wait to see what happens next.

It was pulled because in one of the panels you could see a very slight, unnoticeable, avant garde shot of Pete's old person gear and there wasn't a warning or rating on the cover. :whatever:

People need to grow up. It wasn't like it was in detail or anything. Dang it. :whatever:

so what happens now? Are they going to release a warning on the cover? are they going to digitally blur the image of Peter's... peter...? Or what? What does this mean for the trade, I wonder... This book is actually perfect material for one of the Marvel Premiere HCs...

No doubt come next spring Marvel will milk it for all its worth on the TPB/HC market.

All I know is that if Spider-Man is killed and then at the end it's revealed that he was just merely faking it...yeah, then it'll be a blatant rip off. But there are parallels there, yes.

faking it? if annswering that question ruins the ending potentially... then dont answer...you knmow what..dont even read the post. thanks
