To be fair, both Gwen and MJ were lackluster in the Raimi trilogy, and we haven't met the MJ of the TASM universe (although I can't imagine what they're going to do seeing as they wrote themselves into a wall with the Emma Gwen situation).
Movie-verses aside, If you ask anyone who's read the comics over the past couple of decades they'll probably say MJ. Gwen was only around for about 7 years and their relationship was rocky at best. She had no idea Peter was Spider-Man and blamed him for her father's death. MJ has been around since Gwen was and has had over 40 years of character development + a 20 year marriage. She and Peter have really been through A LOT together and have grown as characters because of it. They know eachother's deepest secrets and regrets and she has been incredibly supportive as Peter's best friend, lover, wife, and the future mother of his daughter. She has also proven time and time again that she is more than capable of handling the life of being married to a superhero.
Not trying to diminish Gwen. Not going to get into the 'better personality' or 'who Peter loved more'. I do like Gwen(especially Emma's portrayal) and Peter clearly loved her too, but MJ has received a lot of unnecessary and uninformed hate from some TASM Stonefield fans. Couple this with what Joe Q and Slott have been doing to the character recently, and it's a real tragedy.
On a lighter note, I'm honestly surprised that Felicia hasn't gotten any love.
