Spielberg Blasts "Irresponsible" TV Industry

Taken from your response, I don't think you know the advisories that I am talking about.
TV shows already use the black screen with text, as well as the TV ratings that appear in a black box in a corner of the screen when the show starts, and sometimes when returning from commercial break.

If they are already in place and being used by the networks, then all the parent has to do is pay attention to them and read. The network can't force a viewer to look at the screen and read them.

If the parent doesn't read them, then it's not the networks fault

Um, that's what I've been saying for about the past page now. Prison Break uses them for- I think- every episode. House, I think, uses them from time to time and so does Smallville. So, back the question at hand and the one you keep on ignoring.

These 'black screens' are used as an extreme advisory in case the episode contains some really graphic content and is especially used if some of the content is 'pushing the envelope' type content that is not the usual in other episodes of the same series. It's not just something to use as a 'this or that' deal, it was created for a reason. And that reason was for an extra and necessary precaution.

Why should 'Heroes' be treated any differently than these shows?! It's content in some episodes is just as bad- if not worse than some of these shows! So, why does 'Heroes' still have yet to use the black screen with text? So- once again:

Why should 'Heroes' by treated any differently?

So, you have no idea then of why 'Heroes' is the center show for this discussion. It was the show that was the main target for this discussion and specifically stated as an example by Spielburg.

Some other shows do use precautions. And I applaud them for being responsible. But, some other networks simply don't use the necessary precautions on some of it's shows. And 'Heroes' is a prime example of this. Because some of these episodes NEEDED the black screen with white text- an episode that involved a brutal rape, or sliced brain matter straight from the film 'Hannibal'.

Violence, etc. can be shown on television and is welcomed. Just use the necessary precautions. And if it is an 'extreme' case then use the black screen with white text because that is why it was created.

But just because Heroes may not do it doesn't mean the entire TV industry is irresponsible.

Not entire industry, but I am certain that 'Heroes' is not the only type of show that uses specifically graphic content within these hours that is typically 'family friendly' in a sense (many PG-13 films are now often regarded as 'family friendly'). 'Heroes' is the example used and the show that sticks out in my mind the most. But, I'm certain there are other shows on other networks that skirt past the mpaa board. So, could actually be said that it is the TV industry in general because many shows now- at least from what I see- are pushing the envelope. Can't point fingers at just one network or show, because most likely there are other prime examples of such cases that I am not aware of.

Thus, if you are going to "push the envelope"- be responsible about it. Simple as that. Some networks and shows do it, while others don't even use it.

Also, an interesting note: Spielburg, more or less, was heavily involved the creation of a PG-13 rating <- an Indiana Jones film, being the first to use a PG-13.

Television doesnt have to be responsible, the parents do. If you're letting oru kid watch CSI, that's your own damn fault for not regulating what they watch. It's the same as the video games shouldnt be violent argument, and holds no water other than irresponsible idiot parents who have no right even having a kid wanting to blame there own shortcomings on a scapegoat.

i'm not a parent...but as a young boy i couldn't watch ANY show w/o my parents present (unless it was sat morning cartoons) and if there was anything they deemed unfit for my viewing..the channel was changed immediately.

Don't worry....its just I SEE SPIDEY being her usual friendly self. :woot: Someone probably said something remotely negative about Raimi or Spider-Man and she's in a bad mood.

^ Well if it isn't my friendly neighborhood stalker. Nice to know you can't get enough of me.

Parents complain so much about what´s on TV cuz they let it raise their kids for them. Be there to talk to your kids and teach them right from wrong and you don´t have to worry about what they see or not.

Spielberg was a pioneer of getting kids to watch gruesome scenes and hear profanity.
