Star Trek Legacy Question

Can someone tell me how do you issue the group orders on the 360?? It's doing my head in!! In the instruction booklet it says A button changes target to nearest target of focus ship, X targets nearest attacker, B clears target and Y orders aggressive torpedo fire but HOW do you do this??

I've tried pressing the control pad and A to get control of the fleet but then if I press Y my ship goes to warp instead of ordering the others to fire aggressively and X just diverts my ship power.

I'd appreciate any help on this.

I have it on PC, but I think you have to select one of your ships with the d-pad and then press A to select the whole fleet. Then you just issue orders like you would if you were only controlling the one ship, and they'll be carried out by all four.

Thanks but I've tried that. I press the D pad and then A and get control of the fleet but then if I try to order torpedos aggressively, like it says in the instruction book, by pressing Y my ship just goes to warp.
