Stargirl The Stargirl News and Discussion Thread

Cool, Hourman and Dr. Midnight were both introduced together as heroes in the comics and on the TV series.
And a Red Bee reference, now that's a deep cut.

Out of curiosity, what other heroes (and I suppose villains too) would people like to see on this show?

Crossover talk aside for that question too. It’s all very well saying the Flash, but you’d mean Jay Garrick or (an alternate) Kid Flash, rather than Gustin’s Barry Allen.

Id love to see their take on Black Canary. Especially since this is about "legacy" bringing her in and using her as a mentor like YJ did would be good. Even if they made her a teen with her mom having quit the JSA would be a cool turn of events.

Power Girl would be great especially as a build up to a reveal of the Multiverse to everyone again.

Vixen

Liberty Belle

Red Tornado and Cyclone

I agree about the role Power Girl could have, but given how comics-accurate all of the other characters' costumes are, I'm not sure they could portray Power Girl without controversy. And if they changed her look and no-one else's, there'd be more controversy.

I see the "controversy" with the die hard fanboys...but outside of that? I dont think it'd be that big to change her costume a bit. Her "original" outfit would be fine though (of course she'd likely wear pants). The boobs....likely wont make the transition but of course it wasnt an "original" thing for either if I remember correctly.

Isn't Doctor Fate one of the victims alongside Starman? And regarding Power Girl, unless they introduce a teenage version of her, would we really want an adult Kara Danvers on this show, being that it's focus is more on a teenage cast (despite some of the cast playing teenagers are pushing 30)?

There should be adult heroes on the show imo. And having a 20 year old Karan Star would be fine.

There'd be flak from the other direction, too, along the lines of how Power Girl's costume in the comics is an expression of her strength and confidence and personal style choice. Even though she's not a real person, there's the ongoing problem in real life of some people deciding that other people's clothing choices and body shapes are shameful and inappropriate, so I'm guessing that some people would interpret any toning down of Power Girl's most well-known look as a comment on how women in real life should present themselves.

The recent discussion about recasting Batwoman has me thinking about the overlap between fictional characters' portrayals and real-world issues.

I doubt that. But if we ever get her I guess we'll see. If anyone expects Power Girl to have 32 DDD...good luck.

Damn Sportsmaster and Tigress might not have the best or coolest costumes compared to the other villains on this show, but man did I love seeing them in action and completely wrecking Stargirl and her new crew in this latest episode. You can tell the actors are having a lot of fun in the roles too, but they aren't chewing scenery or being over the top which is why their performances work so well IMO. Again I can understand how some people probably won't enjoy this show as much as most of us do or might even find it cheesy just like the majority of CW shows, but for me the villains are the real highlight of it, because I love the fact that they actually have a lot of personality and layers which makes them more interesting and engaging to watch. This also couldn't be done without the right mix of quality actors and writing which is why this comes together so well, but flickchick already did a great job of explaining that.

This was another entertaining episode. I thought I would like Sportsmaster and Tigress but they were fun villains. I'm glad that actors weren't being over the top which often happens in the other CW shows and they both felt "real" despite them being insane. They actually put some focus on Artemis which indicates that the writers will do more with the character for the foreseeable future. I wonder where they take Artemis and whether she will be a villain like her comic book counterpart or if she will be a hero like in Young Justice.

The Sportsmaster vs Stargirl fight scene was pretty cool. I like that the team is making rookie mistakes as they're all new to this superhero thing.

Based on the episode listing from the upcoming home video release and the Stars and Stripe, I think I know who the school custodian is - The Shining Knight. He could eventually join Stargirl’s JSA or stick with Seven Soldiers of Victory.

The show is a combination of Infinity Inc, Star and STRIPE, and the 1999 JSA run.

Anybody else think Mike Dugan is a 40 year old in a kid’s body? He gives off this Rodney Dangerfield vibe. I’m digging his interactions with Barbara. Their bonding scenes are a nice distraction from the action/superhero scenes

Honestly I hated everything school related. The last 15-20 minutes made up for that though. Sportmaster was so ridiculous yet it worked. If that couple ever turns face...

Who else was hoping Mike Dugan's volcano would have exploded and killed him? Nothing they do could not stop me from hating him more.

The school stuff on the whole is not my favorite, but it’s fine, aside from maybe the bully and mean girl stuff, and even with that aspect I figure the showrunners/writers/directors have it on the show for a specific plot reason to show that something isn’t quite right with Blue Valley, like in the first episode with everyone being nice to Courtney and her family when they first arrive.

Most of the school stuff is just character stuff, which I actually really like.

Woe else was hoping Mike Dugan's volcano would have exploded and killed him? Nothing they do could not stop me from hating him more.
I’ve always found it a bit overkill with people wanting some character on a show to die just because they found them annoying. Would I want said character to be reprimanded so they can learn and grow? Yes. Would I want them to suffer a horrible, excruciating death? Absolutely not.

As far as Mike goes, he has grated on me in past episodes, but I actually kind of felt for him in this episode. Considering how they’re progressing and developing the other characters, I most definitely think they have plans for him to play a part in the future. This show is definitely playing the long game.

In regards to your complaints, I’d imagine most of them are just personal preferences and not actual problems with the show.

Do I think the show is perfect? Hell no. But I think whatever small amount of issues that exist are far outweighed by the things that bring me joy and entertainment. For what it is, to me, it’s just a really good comic book show.

No, but I kept thinking Guy Fieri would have made that volcano as a kid!
