Start Menu Along With Toolbar Disappearing HELP!!

The startmenu along with the long menu at the bottom stays for like 10 minutes then disappears & also all of my icons, desktop icons disappear aswell, this has just started to happen recently, please, please!! help me

You cant right click on the desk top and bring anything up i take it??

ALT+CTRL+Delete to bring up your task manager then file and new task (run) type in explorer.exe press enter, this should get everything back.

You might have a virus thats attacking the explorer.exe file so get scanning

If its not this its something else

Don't expect everyone to know the answer Tony. Also be sure to run an AntiSpyware program. Use either SuperAntispyware, Spybot Search and Destroy or AdAware to scan for trojans, spyware and adware.


Also make sure your taskbar is locked. I doubt that is the issue though since your desktop icons are disappearing too.

That explorer.exe thing works, but after 10 mins or so, it disappears again

Its been happening to me lately too.Could be that last round of security updates.It only happens when I'm running Amorphys ( a fractal prgrm) The Start menu and taskbar disappear, and when i bring up the taskmanager it has no header to toggle tabs to restart or shutdown or anything,...just the box containing what programs are running.

But im not complainin cause it only happens with that program..."Hey doc it hurts my elbow when i move it like this!"

This happened to me at one point but it has been fine now. But knowing my luck now that I have said that it will start messing up again & I have SP2

I suggest booting in SAFEMODE, and running ClamAntivirus and Spybot off a USB stick.

I downloaded SuperAntiSpyWare & It's been running good for now, i think it was a couple of viruses, the program said "Reboot" & I did & the problem went away, thanks guys!

How do I find out which service Pack I have & If it's SP3, how do I uninstall it?, sorry but plz don't call me a n00b or something, I just know what i know about computers & that's kinda it..lol

it's still happening, the start menu dissapearence thing, i have SP2, not SP3 i'll download the other antiviruses, the ones I recently d/loaded have gotten rid of other probz aswell, so thx so far guys

To see if you have SP3 installed

Go to Start>right click on My Computer>Properties and in the general tab it will tell you if you have SP1, SP2 or SP3 installed.

Does the taskbar come back if you take your cursor over the area where it is at?
