Horror Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot

I'm biased since I love the 79' version (warts and all ) , and I rewatched it again relatively recently.

I thought the trailer was okay, but kinda just generic in terms of horror films .

As a 70s baby , I'll never complain about the retro 1970s setting , but it didn't blow me away.

That said, putting it on Max is probably a good showcase for the film , and if new generations of viewers discover Salem's Lot through this version, that's a good thing.

For those who live in the UK and Ireland, the film is coming to cinemas on October 11th.

Lucky, would have loved to have seen it in theatres! :csad:

Trailer looks okay. I wasn't scared but looks intriguing.

Straight to streaming though?

Yeah. That’s a tad cause for concern.

I mean WB pivoted both Evil Dead Rise and Smile from Max to theatrical and they made a lot of money. Even quality aside, don’t know why they have such little faith in this financially.

Smile is a Paramount movie, not WB. It was never gonna be a MAX exclusive.

None of this justifies why they were sitting on it for so long and why they eventually dumped it to streaming.

Yeah, what's going on? Did the mixed reception IT Chapter 2 (even though it's way better than what the damn miniseries did) and Doctor Sleep not making much money spook them?

I doubt It Chapter 2 could spook them as it still made close to 500M worldwide. I’m sure they’d be happy with half that.

And yeah, most horror gets mixed to bad reviews so that can’t really be it.

I still think they could’ve made some nice money if they released it theatrically as intended. Not IT money mind you, but enough to justify itself.

Yeah, I don't know. I'm sure the fact that they don't have money to promote their stuff played a big role in this, especially after some recent theatrical flops, but it's a weird choice because horror films have a lower marketing cost and are more of a safe bet than other genres, especially around Halloween.

Also it doesn't explain why they shelved it for almost two whole years before deciding to throw it in streaming, which is something that this administration seemingly stopped doing anyways. How bad could those test screenings have been?

Delighted to see its getting mostly good reviews.
