Comics Steve Ditko Documentary?

I'd like it on DVD too.
Maybe a version of the upcoming SM3 dvds will feature it...
That would be awesome, but I have a feeling it won't happen. But like you said, I'm sure somebody will record a repeat and put it on Youtube.

Maybe the Spider-Man 3.5 release will have it,.. but then waiting 2 plus years won't be too appealing for you guys.

Looking for the Steve Ditko documentary? Look no further, I recorded it and placed it on YT. I still have two parts to upload onto my account, but that'll be done asap.

You rock! Thank you soooo much!

Someone else seemed to upload it too, so I was able to see the last parts (your upload's better quality though). Just wanted to add that even though Stan does consider himself the creator, he gives a lot of credit to Ditko. In fact, after listening to Stan Lee I never realized how much Ditko influenced the direction Spider-man went in.

You Rock, Sugarculted! :word:

Gonna start watching it right now!

Heh heh, my pleasure guys
Uploading the sixth part right now, YT's acting a bit slow today. But, within an hour or so...both parts will be up.

I love what Alan Moore said about Steve's art at the beginning of his commentary....sums up my personal opinion as well....

Cool, it's up.

I REALLY want to get the Omnibus before x-mas, by then my girl will just buy it for me if I ask.

..Thing is- in the UK it retails at 65 frikkin pounds! That is roughly $130.. Godamn UK vat! and y'know, I'm not Tom Cruise.

I highly recommend part 6, the Stan Lee portion..very interesting.

Im gonna get that as well. Someone said it doesnt include the ASM annuals that Steve drew, but i saw it advertised in Marvel Previews and yes, the annuals are included....they're charging us about 100 dollars over here (USA)...

Yeah that's 50 quid, a more reasonable price.

After watching the documentary I also would really like to track down some MR A comics.
Shame about youtube's crappy video quality, the show was filmed digitally.

I hope it gets put on DVD. I really enjoyed it (still waiting for the final segment)...

I like Ross. I never heard of him until earlier this month, but ive watched some of his other stuff on Youtube, and he seems pretty cool...

Aloha,
Yes the Annuals 1 and 2 are included. The Omnibus puts them in chronological order with the first 38 Amazings. Great book. A must have.I would shop around to ebay and Amazon regarding the price. I know yu can do better than $100. I got mine for $69.99 plus shipping.

Did you watch the documentary Donald? What did you think?

You mentioned you've watched a promotional copy of this documentary? I have a question for you.

Is it true that during the interview, when pressed on the true origins of Spidey, for about twenty seconds he drops the public Uncle Stan "mask" that we've all come to know and love?

No, not at all. In the first place, i dont think Stan ever presents himself in a false manner, regardless. But here in this documentary, while he obviously feels that end of the day, Spider-Man is HIS creation, he still conducts himself in a classy manner....

i KNEW that guy from CBR was just trying to stir up controversy, as usual. :whatever:

I bloody love 'Wossy.'

He's got a vicous sense of humour, he's been around for decades now, and he lives near me!:word:

I actually saw him in my local comic store in Camden, with a HUGE stack of comics.

Naturally, he had to take some of theclasssic Spidey's from up on he wall:word:

What I find even funnier, is that I had a 40 minute chat with Paul Gambucinni at comic convention a few years ago. He really knows his golden age history!

I love when he goes; "we just talked to Steve Ditko, and he basically told us to **** off" :woot: ...

Im glad Ross told Steve how many of us still love and respect his work, all these years later...

I loved the Documentry, and I'm really glad that Ditko let Ross and Gaiman talk to him adn tell him that we still respect his work.

I also think Ross funny! :woot:

They need to put this thing out on a DVD, immediately.

Why?

Because I have dial up and there is no way I can view You Tube.

It was great seeing Gaiman starstruck from meeting Ditko. It was pretty funny.

He is one of the UK’s most famous TV personalities and also a die hard Spidey fan.
However, he has admitted that his knowledge of the comics only goes as far as the first 100 or so ASM issues. In 1988 he hosted ‘The Incredibly Strange Film Show’ and on one episode interviewed another hero of mine- the late, great Russ Meyer.

Damn! Wanna tell us where you got it for that much?

The way I see it- going on Stan’s admission that a lot of the issues were also plotted by Ditko- I think it would be fair to say that Ditko had a lot more to do w/ the creation of Spider-Man’s world than Stan did. Stan gave the characters their names, but comics is a visual medium and Ditko it seems- did most of the rest. Not to take anything away from Stan he was a genius too, I just think the first 38 issues were more Ditko than Lee.

…wish I could find an image file of Ditko’s 1999 comic page on the subject of who created Spider-Man.
It’s in the documentary, but due to the compromised quality of youtube’s images it is rendered unreadable.

I agree.
Marvel should just release a Marvel comics DVD that features all the programs ever made about the company- in chronological order. That would rule!

I agree with you. And as much as I respect Stan, I am disappointed he would not give Steve Ditko the credit he deserves. He says he credits him, but I believe he is just saying that, but does not believe it at all.

And that 1999 Ditko comic about who created Spider-Man is pretty funny. I was able to pause the video and read it, (the video I was watching was one of a better quality) It basically says that it Spider-Man was/is a co-creation, and it doesn't make sense for one person to take credit for the creation. Without the art, it would just be words, without words it would just be images. (That is the main part of the comic, that's what those 2 large panels were side by side. In the "words" side Ditko also alludes to while he created the words, not even the entire plot was devised by him [Stan] either.
At the bottom you could also give your input on the topic, I believe. Also at the bottom, he had a section saying something like: When you look at the fan mailing address section in a comic what do they show? The name of a specific character, or the image of a specific character?
In my mind it was quite a bold thing to do, especially since it was done in '99. But, he feels strongly on the issue (Just like Stan feels strongly he is the sole creator), and he has every right to.
