Variety is reporting that producer Steve Krantz has passed away on January 4, 2007, at the age of 83 due to complications from pneumonia. Krantz started his own company in 1960 and produced the much-beloved Marvel Superheroes cartoons, which adapted early Marvel Comics to TV animation with catchy theme songs and artwork often lifted straight from the comics, as well as the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon.

Krantz was also the producer for Ralph Bakshi's Fritz the Cat, the first X-rated cartoon and first independent animated film to gross more than $100 million. He would produce several more of Bakshi's films as well as sitcoms and mini-series adapted from novels by his wife Judith Krantz.
