Strike Back, or Badassery On Tap

Bloody awesome... Strike Back has been one of the more fun shows for me for a while... Yeah, it's cheesy, corny and silly... but sometimes you just need that.

Had never seen any of this until this morning....I finished season ONE today....cool interesting show. I'm watching first episode of season TWO right now. Second season really changes things....not just a change of characters, but heavy on the sex and nudity. Not complaining...just thrown by the change of content.

That's because it went from a Sky1 (UK) production to a Cinemax (US) co-production, lol. Gratuitous violence/sex/nudity was kinda part of the Cinemax brand, so yeah, the change was glaring. But I grew to enjoy the Scott/Stonebridge combo more than the original characters anyway.

I liked the first season....it was cool to see Armitage (who I pretty much only know as Thorin Oakenshield from the HOBBITT movies) and Lincoln (who I only know from THE WALKING DEAD) doing other stuff. It was also good to see Jodhi May (been interested in her since LAST OF THE MOHICANS) in it.

I'm sure I'll like the new guys too. The only one I know from it is Winchester (TV series CRUSOE and movie FLYBOYS).

Yeah, the 1st season had a good cast. Winchester and Stapleton just really sell that camaraderie/bromance, imo.

I think C. Lee meant the Armitage season and not the first Winchester and Stapleton season where the show came over to the US broadcasting and became a bigger hit as a result. Unless you meant it like "yeah the first season had a good cast, but the later seasons were also good." If so my mistake flickchick85.

I came on the Winchester/Armitage season and totally dug it. It was just sort of cool to see a fun bromantic action-adventure show on TV again that had a little more edge to it than what we typically saw in the theaters at that time. When Winchester's character did that dive and grabbed the warhead, that was a fun sequence.

I guess my issue was that I felt the show sort of ran its course after a few years and they killed off a lot of the characters I liked in the show. I mean yeah, it's good to have a show where the main characters can die, but they were like killing off everyone except Sullivan Stapleton and Phillip Winchester. I thought the villain of the first season was also very interesting. Wish they could've done a bit more with that character.

The other thing I liked about the show is that the heroes were often put in situations where modern amenities and technology were really of no help to them at all. I feel like they get around all technological advances in warfare and military combat quite well by putting them in areas that are still under-developed or not as modernized. So they can't just call the satellite ray guns or air strikes.

I haven't watch the show since they brought it back with a new cast. Has it been any good?

Yeah I know. I realize now my post wasn't clear, but I was agreeing with him that S1 had a good cast while explaining why I still preferred the Scott/Stonebridge seasons.

I haven't watched it with the new cast either.

Yeah, I figured that was what you meant on second thought flickchick85, my apologies.

My only issue in season 2 was:

I kind of got upset they wasted Armitage right off the bat. I mean write him off the show, but did you really just have to kill the guy in the first 5 minutes?

Yeah, it was truly a bummer to see [blackout]him go out like that.[/blackout] I was afraid they'd do the same with with Scott/Stonebridge in the new ones, but I've heard that's not the case.

I was almost sort of glad they retired from the show because I was worried at some point if the show kept going one or both of them would die :(

Yeah I was honestly convinced [blackout]they'd die in the finale. Like, it was a foregone conclusion for me. So I was pleasantly surprised there.[/blackout]

I figured it would be Stonebridge and Scott would always be the soldier doomed to survive. Like Scott lost his lovers and his best friend and his other comrades. But yeah I'm also glad they made it out.

i agree with that.... almost worse than anything else TBH

Finished watching all 6 seasons over the weekend. The first 5 seasons were the best for me. Season 6 just didn't seem right.....especially when [BLACKOUT]Stonebridge and Scott show up out of nowhere to save the team's ass then wander off again.[/BLACKOUT]
