You may or may not have heard that there is a distinct possibility that the Writers Guild, the Directors Guild AND the Screen Actors Guild will all be striking next spring, if negotiations with the Producers Guild do not get settled between now and then. With the chance that they might go months without any new productions, everyone in Hollywood is making sure their pet projects are getting set up before the hurricane hits.

A list starting circulating around the talent agencies two weeks ago, listing the 300 projects in active development which have become pre-strike priorities for the major studios and a number of top production companies. This list does not mean all of these projects will be completed before the strike date or that they will come together in time. A few titles have already started shooting, some others have set production start dates, and a couple will likely end up on somebody's Best Films Never Made list a few years down the road.

You'll also notice certain directors have their names attached to two or more projects, while a number of them have no director attached. Hell, even Hollywood pariah David O. Russell is getting a bump thanks to the strike threat. Just that these are the films these companies are putting their muscle behind, hoping to keep their distribution pipeline open and flowing in case of a work stoppage.

As of August 29, 2007, there are the main priorities for Hollywood, in case of emergency:

Actually, 'I want to fck your sister' seems like it might be good. Heard about it a long time ago and depending on how they take it, it could be a GREAT older brother comedy that LOTS of older brothers could relate to.

The premise:

"The high-concept comedy revolves around a brother who will go to any lengths to protect his sister from guys just like him.

I'm so confused about all this strike stuff.
What are they striking against?

This is what I want to know.

People who make millions are going on strike...for what again...

Usually its for the benefit of low payed actors. People who do commercials, bit parts, and Law & Order.

Look at all those movies. :wow:

The sad thing is, only a few of them look interesting.

Well, all we see are the titles... can't tell that much from titles.

So uh, what's this Disney G-Force movie? What happened to Gatchaman? And Kevin Munroe is no longer directing?

Pre-Strike Production Shortlist
By Garth Franklin
Wednesday October 31st 2007 7:42am
With the potential writer's strike less than a day away, studios have prepared more than four dozen projects that are ready to go no matter how long the strike goes on.

Variety has penned a great article explaining which titles are ready to be filming before March. Some high profile titles (eg. "Nottingham," "Transformers 2," "Prince of Persia," "Shantaram") don't seem to have made the cut and will have to wait until any potential strike is concluded. Amongst those that made the pre-strike cut, here's the short list:

Paramount Pictures (incl. Dreamworks): Star Trek, GI Joe, Morning Glory, Shutter Island, The Lovely Bones, Hotel for Dogs, Eagle Eye, The Soloist, A Thousand Words, Wednesday

20th Century Fox (incl. Regency, Fox Atomic): Wolverine, The Day the Earth Stood Still, They Came From Upstairs, Max Payne, Trouble Man, Bride Wars, Marley and Me, Monte Carlo, Brad Cutter Ruined My Life Again, Ticket to Ride, Jennifer's Body

Universal Pictures: The Boat That Rocked, State of Play, Land of the Lost, Repossession Mambo, Death Race, The Wolf Man, Duplicity, The Fast and the Furious 4 and Paul Greengrass' untitled Green Zone project

Sony Pictures: Bond 22, Angels and Demons, The Taking of Pelham 123, Seven Pounds, Year One, Edwin A. Salt

Warner Bros. Pictures: Justice League, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, Yes Man, Hangover, Observe and Report, The Incredible Mr. Limpet, The Jetsons

Walt Disney Pictures: Shopaholic, Bedtime Stories, Witch Mountain, High School Musical 3, Hannah Montana, The Proposal, Christmas Carol

New Line Cinema: Four Christmases, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Seventeen, My Sister's Keeper

Other (Focus, Weinstein, etc): Bruno, This Side of the Truth, The Box, Shorts, A Serious Man, Vanished, Curveball, Zach and Miri, Shanghai, Nine, Comeback

WGA To Strike On Monday

Date: November 2, 2007

By: Kellvin Chavez
Source: Variety

The Writers Guild of America is closing in on strike as early as Monday with prospects for a last-minute deal evaporating.

In an energetic meeting of 3,000 guild members Thursday night, the WGA's negotiating committee announced its strike recommendation, generating an impressively enthusiastic response.

Final decision on striking could come as early as today via meetings of the WGA West board and the WGA East Council - though leaders were mum as to how soon a strike will start.

WGA leaders told attendees at the meeting that they should go to work today and wait for a call or email from strike captains.

It's a foregone conclusion that the WGA panels will OK a strike and the consensus is that they'll probably select Monday as the starting day.

There's still a long-shot chance of re-launching the negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers over the weekend. But that scenario's uncertain, given the predictably vitriolic rhetoric that's dominated in recent days.

Hopes for a settlement cratered Wednesday night -- a few hours before the WGA contract expired -- amid bitter recriminations from both sides. The meltdown occurred when companies demanded that the WGA drop its demand to increase homevid residuals, prompting guild negotiators to leave without any indication when -- or even if -- they'd return.

WGA negotiators were particularly perturbed over the insistence by companies that they won't grant an increase in DVD residuals.

Nick Counter, president of the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers, said the companies believe they can make a deal by moving on other issues but insisted that increasing the DVD formula is a nonstarter.

"Due to overriding business reasons, no further progress can be made because of the WGA's continuing efforts to substantially increase the DVD formula," he said. "We are ready to meet at any time and remain committed to reaching a fair and reasonable deal that keeps the industry working, but the DVD issue is a roadblock to these negotiations."

Does the strike include those who write Indy Films?

Can someone answer this for me? The people going on strike are the writers, complaining that they screwed up and didn't ask for more money in 1988(last time they went on strike). If a lot of those films have already been written and are ready to film why are the holding off?? If I were the studios, I would have been saying "Thanks for what will most likely be the last script you'll ever right!" then gotten the picture filming shortly after.

Doesn't make sense for a lot of those films that have finished scripts to them.

They were talking about the strike on the radio here. Said late-night talk shows would also be hit hard by this. Good to see many good flicks still cooking for next year, despite the strike.

This strike won't affect "Shadow of the Bat" (Batman 3) at all in the future will it...? It still will be about 3 years after July 18th 2008 right?
