I just watched Superman the movie, Supergirl and Superman returns and the thing that bothers me is the posing while flying. One arm straight out the other arm bent with the fist at the hip or side of the chest, with one leg bent. I also don't like the flying with both hands straight out. Both ways seem corny to me. I like the way Neo was flying in those crappy Matrix sequels and now Smallville (except with Kara, for some reason), with both arms held behind the back. Even holding the arms straight at the sides, would be better than holding them out or in that comic book pose. What do you guys think.

Is this a dumb thread?

You said it, I didn't. I'm just curious as to how this relates to any possible sequel. It's a mute point. Taking away "the Superman pose" is like taking away Spiderman's web, IMO. It just wouldn't be Superman, if he didn't have his arms out. By the way, I would expect this thread to be moved if I were you.

Marcus M., I like the way the arms-next-to-the-body looks better, myself. But part of the whole Superman lore is the arms out front. Take away his curl, take away his undies, take away his corny style of flying and you've made fundamental changes to a character that transcends fashion and current cultural norms. But that's just my opinion. :o Besides, the arms out front is more aerodynamically advantageous. :D

RouthIsSuperman, the word is moot. Mute means speechless.

the arms out front is iconic, its best to keep it that way
