Suburban Living

I remember there was a time where people thought that living in the suburbs was the way to go, especially if you lived in a rough neighborhood in the city like I did.

When I was 14, my parents saved some money and we lived in this nice house in a suburb called Richton Park. But as the years went on I realized that, other than the scenery, living in the burbs was no different than living in the city because you still had to deal with crime, gangs, thugs, etc.

Not to mention that just trying to keep a house is a headache in itself, especially with the economy the way it is now.

So with all of that, do people still want to live in the suburbs these days?

I live in an apartment complex so I couldn't tell you one way or the other. If I had my choice I'd want to live in a nice, rural area. But everywhere you go there will be positves and negatives.

You can't escape crime. Actually the suburbs is choice real estate for crooks since the stuff is nicer out there.

The suburbs was a euphamisim for a nice neighborhood but not all suburbian areas are nice neigbourhoods.

I grew up in the 'burbs, so thats what I'm used to. Yeah, I would stay in a comparative area. We have been saying for over ten years "The gangs are coming here from Chicago!" Yet, nothing extraordinary ever happens. We see some graffiti, but that could be done by anyone. Sometimes we have drug busts out here, but its usually done by local kids. We have the occasional murder, but its never gang related. Just the odd psycho.

It depends on the suburb with respect to crime and such. A few months ago a house was robbed in my neighborhood. It was an inside job since they were having work done in the house. My neighbors (who have lived there over 20 years) said it was the first time anything like that has happened in the neighborhood.

Though my town is notorious for a man who killed his family in the 70's. The site of his house (his actual house burned down. It was used as a drug hang out years after the murders) is a few blocks away from my house.
