I live in Vancouver BC, and there's a locally published horror comic called Zombie Jesus, which is available exclusively through RX Comics. It's kinda like what would happen if George A Romero were to make a movie about the crusifiction and reserection of Christ. It's awsome in its sacrilidge.
Another comic I found at a Salvation Army Thrift Store (and now wish I had spent the $0.50 to buy it) is The Gay Avenger. It's a hilarious spoof of the Batman type superhero comic. It's about a hero called The Gay Avenger, who has been around for generations and passes the mantle down from father to son whenever the previous Gay Avenger grows too old to don the tights and the mask to fight crime. In addition to a family tradition of being masked vigilantes, they have a family tradition of the men going off to war. The last Gay Avenger fought in the Korean War. His son fought in Vietnam, but unfortunately lost his leg and couldn't take up the mantle of Gay Avenger. Years go by and everyone forgets about The Happy Hero, The Merry Marauder, The Jolly Vigilante, etc, etc, etc. Eventually his grandson goes off to college, and is called to duty as a masked crime fighter. Unfortunately, he was raised on a rice farm in the middle of butt f**k Nebraska and is rather naïve. Thus he has no idea that the definition of the word "gay" now means "homosexual". So his first appearance as The Gay Avenger is rescuing hostages from neo-nazi terrorist who call themselves The Intolerants. Unfortunately, the people taken hostage were those attending a banquet for The Gay & Lesbian Society Of America. So while he successfully saved the day, the media and everyone totally misunderstands the meaning of "Gay Avenger". Hilarity then ensues. If you can find it, it's definitely worth the read.
