DC Television Suicide Squad’ Spinoff Series ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena From James Gunn Set at Max

I’m not afraid to eat crow when I’m wrong…

This is a ton of fun. I’m really enjoying this. It’s much better than the trailers made it out to be.

Bat-Mite… Bat-Mite!!!

People shouldn't underestimate James Gunn. He's a talented writer and director. He's good at writing misfits and social outcasts.

There are a couple subplots I'm a bit wait and see on. But I think the journey of the show will be about Peacemaker finally confronting and rejecting his dad and sort of being a slightly better person. A meathead, but a progressive meathead I guess?

I get the sense that Adebayo is there to inform on the op to Waller even though Adebayo wants to get out of the spook business. And if things go bad, she would plant the fake diary in Peacemaker's home to make Peacemaker a patsy.

I mean think about it. They are trying to keep this whole op hush hush. If they get caught, Peacemaker is the PERFECT patsy between his scumbag father, his own past as a convicted felon, and his general MO.

If things go wrong, they can pin it on Peacemaker and you have nigh-perfect plausible deniability.

My other thought was since we know there are like alien butterfly parasites, it seems like one could've transferred or infected Adebayo. Her checking that bodyguard for a "sample" conveniently happened offscreen. And now we know the butterflies are like infecting peoples' heads or body snatchers.

For me it was never about doubting James Gunn since I've always been entertained by anything I've seen of his. It was really more me being skeptical about the show centering around Peacemaker since I really disliked him by the end of The Suicide Squad but after watching the second and third episodes I'll admit I'm having fun.

I think the reason it works is because they put some good personalities around him as well. I'm also really liking Murn, Adebayo, Economos, and Harcourt. Also...Eagly, who is good burd.

This show is a lot of fun so far and John Cena is absolutely killing it IMO. I actually think the whole supporting cast works really well in this and I wasn't expecting this to go in a more sci-fi/horror direction after the first episode but considering that James Gunn is involved, I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.

I was super skeptical about this show at first because I didn't think the trailers looked that good at all, but its already better than most of the CW stuff and way better than something like Titans.

I'm still trying to get use to that ridiculous, opening theme though lol.

The only annoying character so far IMO is Vigilante, but then again his whole point is to be annoying.

That might be true, but the dude is still pretty much a low budget, less likable version of Kick-Ass. I can definitely buy him being the one Peacemaker gets closest too though since they are both psychopaths.

Love Cena in this role but I found the the
bar scene with hardcourt a little absurd who steps to a woman thst aggressively after she rejects there friends advances

I’m not sure what to make of this series. It’s not particularly funny or interesting. Peacemaker isn’t really strong enough to be a lead, nor the mystery element really that interesting. But it’s not horrible or unbearable to watch, it’s just a forgettable way to pass 40 minutes.

I found it weird though they made Vigilante a Deadpool ripoff.

The reviews are pretty good for this. This is a pretty good start to HBO Max first true DC original series. I mean true and that it wasn’t developed for DC Universe or other service but I think y’all know what I mean lol… I think.

Makes me excited for The Batman spin-offs.

Just finished watching 3rd episode makes me appreciate Kevin Feige even more for keeping Gunn in check cause some of the humor here is not landing and its way over the top with the juvenile Jokes

Or im just getting old

Unlike Kick-Ass, Vigilante is actually comes off as a competent marksman. He comes off like an annoying spaz, but look at how easily he took to firing that sniper rifle.

So far I'm not sold on whatever is going on with the father. Just seems like one subplot too many. And yeah sometimes I do think they do overdo with all the depraved R-rated humor. But I think a show featuring such minor DCU characters is the only setting where you could get away with this. Or like in Deadpool, it works because its Deadpool; but even in Deadpool 2; the humor and comedy didn't feel as fresh and novel as the original.

Secondly, I do think they are dragging the plot out a bit with the threat reveals.

Vigilante seems less like Deadpool to me and more like the little kid brother that really wants to play superhero with his older brother and his friends. I can kinda see certain parallels with Deadpool and Vigilante and even this show and Deadpool.

That said, listen I love Deadpool, but Deadpool did not write the book on wacky superhero comic book shenanigans. Even Deadpool himself started out as a Marvel knockoff of Deathstroke, who from later creators' influence grew to be more wacky and comedic.

After watching two episodes, I have to agree with this. I fell asleep at the end of episode 2 and didn't bother rewinding. They spent way too much time at the apartment building. There was no payoff for spending that much time there. It dragged the episode too much. Didn't laugh much. Gunn really needs someone like Feige to reign him in a little bit.

Any ideas on how & when i can watch this in the UK?

i hate cancel culture but James Gunn does himself no favors after being briefly canceled to attempt some of the things he does here

showing that male sex toy so explicitly and the what's app vagina pic I mean we get it Peacemaker is horny dude i don't need to be reminded every 5 min

I thought the camera was unusually much focused on Harcourt getting dressed in the beginning of episode 2 to be honest.

As much as I like 80's music and rock, the soundtrack on this show is ghastly.

Them making Bat-Mite canon is all I need.

Well, the payoff is that he had an MMF threesome with the wife that he tied up. They pinned the crime on Peacemaker's father Auggie Smith, who now has reorganized his white supremacist gang in prison. The local authorities are investigating what's happening now. And he had to go back to Annie's apartment to get his costume and her spaceship. So he got the spaceship.

I know. But I wouldn't call that much of a payoff...
