Animated is fine but I don't want a live action version. Thankfully, I don't expect that to happen.

Mark Millar said:
Did you hear WB pitching directors Red Son? Two diff pals in last 2 months. This truly is Putin's America.

Shut up, Mark.

I cannot see any way they'll do that - especially whilst the DCEU is running. Red Son is my all-time #4 graphic novel and I'd love to see it adapted, but as an animation (a really, really good animation).

Possibly seeing the Russian Anarchist Batman in a live action Red Son movie?

That's bucket list level awesome.

I hope this paves the way for DCEU adaptations of Batman Beyond and Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come is my all-time #1. I'd love that to be the final DCEU movie - if the actors could hang around long enough - and I'd happily welcome Snyder back for it. All that apocalyptic imagery is tailor-made for him.

Dammit if this is happening, that makes me wish we hadn't gotten a BVS that was so inspired by TDKR.

The thing I like most about this rumor is that it opens up possibilities for other Elseworlds stories. I wasn't huge on Red Son for some reason, I should probably read it again though.

Yes I think a live-action TDKReturns is - unfortunately - pretty much out after BvS :csad:

Zack Snyder should've just done a word for word adaptation of TDKR, kinda like Watchmen. It would've been exponentially better than BvS.

I'd like to have seen him do it, although the DCEU would have been over kinda quickly - Man of Steel... The Dark Knight Returns... and done! :funny:

I have felt recently that if the DCEU failed they would be better off doing adaptations for a few years.

All Star Superman would make a great pair of films for example.

Yes, I think if Wonder Woman hadn't come along that might have been the way to go.

I want that too. I've championed Duncan a Jones to direct that adaptation since he was rumored for MoS.

I said it before and I will say it again, they need to GET SUPERMAN RIGHT first before even thinking about doing some alternate version of the character or expanding his universe with other characters from the superman mythology and this is coming from a guy who worshiped the Red Son GN.
Also I'm still waiting for the Henry Cavill voiced DTV adaptation that we were teased with 4 yrs ago.

Duncan Jones saw superman as a Dr Manhattan type character (not to dissimilar too how Snyder portrayed him), which doesn't fit with the charismatic, hopeful albeit misguided Superman we saw in Red Son.

I'm pretty sure that if WB did focus groups on casual CBM viewers, the idea of this story wouldn't be appealing to them. As great as the story is, some non-readers would view it as a political/social statement and others would see it as character assassination. I can't envision WB taking the live-action gamble with this.

That being said, animated films have greater freedoms to explore these kind of Elseworlds storylines. If it was made, it would have a chance to be a hot seller.

if they do not screw this up like superman in DCEU i could see 90% on rotten tomatoes base on plot twist ending alone.

What DTV were we teased?

Well "teased" might be a misleading word but back in 2013 one of the guys who directed some of the DTV adaptations mentioned the fact that he's spoken to Henry about voicing a red son adaptation and Henry was ecstatic about the prospect but I haven't heard anything since. Needless to say they were considering a red son adaptation for the DTV and we might see one in the near future, perhaps next year to coincide with grandpa Kal's 80th birthday.

Get regular Superman right first, then worry about Red Son.

Red Son is the greatest elseworlds Superman story....after All Star Superman.

Would be wonderful to see a great animated version though.

Oh right I don't remember that. That would be really cool, I do think with this story animation is the way to go:

Call it "Elsworlds Superman: Red Son".

Anyone who complains about character assassination afterwords will be treated like an idiot.

Once Warner Bros has done a few Superman movies people will get tired of them. At which point the public will welcome live action elseworld movies.
