Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent - WOW

I don't know who the blonde chick is, but Peirce, a professional? Really?

i think its amanda holden. she's an actress but i think she might've performed on stage too? I can't remember

My dad wanted me to watch this, too. As something resembling a semi professional singer/actor, I don't get what the big deal is. They were mugging for the camera when they rolled their eyes at her age/comments about "one side of me". The "rude audience skank" hardly represents an entire audience. And what Simon said afterward is obviously a play on the fact they thought she was going to suck, not him actually going "Wow, I knew you were great all along".

So a 47 year old can sing "I Dreamed a Dream" decently. She has a nice voice in a certain range, but she's not THAT good overall. Go YouTube that song, and listen to it several times. That song requires power in certain areas to excel at, and I'm just not seeing it from her performance. A lot of what many seem to think is pure "talent" is the microphone amplifying what appears to be a fairly weak voice. It's possible she's nervous, but I don't think so. She's struggling like hell to hold her notes in most important spots, and as has been pointed out, her vibrato is pretty awkward. It's decent, it's a nice moment for her to be sure, but that's not a breathtaking performance on any level.

That's what I've been trying to say^

I would like to point out, though, it's absurd, given what people should know by now, to equate "attractiveness" with "singing potential".

What's with the ****ing sappy music in the background. I mean, ok some old ass ugly as **** lady sang pretty good. What's the big deal? Doesn't this happen every season on these shows. Some weird ass chick shows up and sings pretty good?

Her physical appearance and eccentric attitude.
People were assuming she was gong to be some terrible nutjob of a joke.

This guy makes a good point.

He sort of does make a good point but talentless people who go on these shows usually know they're talentless and for some reason relish the prospect of becoming an international joke. There's usually not much inner beauty to admire in such people since they're idiots and attention ****es.

Exactly. If she was talentless and went on a televised talent competition, she'd have just been some old attention ****e that looks like a bag lady, and we'd all be right for laughing at her. Thankfully, she's a talented woman who looks like a bag lady (seriously, Ms. Boyle. You're going on the telly. Make an effort).

That's really a ridiculous question to ask. "What if this talented person was untalented?" Really?

sadly, that's probably why she's never had a chance in the business. lady is talented and she's sweet so i really want her to do well in the competition
There are plenty of successful, unattractive singers out there.

plenty of successful unattractive, untalented people judging them, too. Simon is older than she is:wow:

I love Les Miz; she tore that song up!

I feel like people are making a bigger deal about this than there needs to be. It's like, okay, she can sing. Thats nice. Moving on...

I'm not gonna say she's the best singer I've ever heard, but it was a beautiful moment and I'm glad she had her time in the spotlight and it'd be nice if something became of this for her.

So let me get this straight. People are on this right now and for the next 15 minutes because she looks like a toad and sounds like a nightingale?

So what?

Americans (and I suppose the rest of the world) seem to be shocked that talent and looks dont always go hand in hand...

Jeeze...are we all that...I don't even know the word. Humans are such loathsome creatures.

With artists like Britney Spears, and all those other pretty faced, no talent, studio creations, it's what we've been preconditioned to think, that attractiveness is always tantamount over talent. It's really sad though if you think about it. Some of the greatest talents in the world are not skinny looking, vapid waifs or male cover model lookalikes. The visual medium has also meant the career deaths of very talented singers who were huge on the radio, like Christopher Cross. It's like that old song from the group the Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star which was ironically the first video ever shown on MTV.

Susan was on the Today Show this morning and they said and she confirmed that not only is she single but she has never been kissed:eek:

Dayum woman needs some liquor. But she is a wonderful lady and still humble. She was embarassed being on tv.

I think that's half of her charm, that she is so humble despite being so gifted and talented.
