Sorry, but it's an insult to any artist worth their salt to say that their music is good material for a video game where people "play" the music without actually having to have any musical skills or abilities.

jag
Yeah it's like "sniping" people in Call of Duty without actually being a Marine or "being" a Mage in WoW without actually being a sorcerer. :whatever:

Musicians spend YEARS honing their craft, most of the time with the goal of doing something unique and memorable that other MUSICIANS will at least find difficult to replicate. To suggest that 12 year old Johnny who practiced on Guitar Hero for a month, which requires absolutely zero musical talent and just good motor skills, has anywhere near the same level of talent as a professional musician in any way shape or form is ludicrous and insulting to musicians galaxy-wide.

But the games give those artists that contribute more profits, although somewhat small, though.

AND, a lot of kids that played the game have picked up a real guitar.

Although I disagree with your opinion jag, I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
Ha, I'd like to see a dystopian future where Sony rules the world and they're trying to drag jag away to a re-education camp for dissing Guitar Hero, and you cry out "LET HIM SPEAK!" so the guards draw their laser guns and point 'em at you and you yell "FREEDUMB!!!" and charge them and then they blast you.

Dude I never meant it like that. I am not nearly saying that GH is anywhere near as hard as playing real Music.

I was actually joking. You know like in the movies/shows where the clueless character talks about how his "hood" can get pretty "hardcore". It was a dumb joke:csad: . But I do really have trouble with Psychobilly Freakout on Expert.:woot:

Take it easy, Wilhelm. I'm not an addict to the game. I'm a big fan of it, though. Great party game, doesn't really make you look dumb when you play it, ala DDR. I haven't played it in a while due to my HDTV lagging the picture.

Well, that's true. I have little respect for "Weekend Necromancers".
Try ACTUALLY drawing those pentagrams and mixing those spell components, n00bs.

Then cue the

"Waah- waah- waaaaaaah*

Roll credits.

Epic.*sobs*

Although saving jag from a Guitar Hero concentration camp would be cool.

Yeah, just you said you'd defend jag's right to diss Guitar Hero to the death.

I am actually learning how to play the guitar. Really tough to get started, so far.

Playing Guitar Hero does NOT translate to instant musical skills. It's great that it inspired you to pick up the guitar and start learning how to play it, but your Guitar Hero conquests aren't going to give you a whole lot when it comes to actually learning how to play an instrument. I think you're discovering that as you start learning to play an actual guitar.

Like I said before, musicians spend YEARS honing their craft, most of the time with the goal of doing something unique and memorable that other MUSICIANS will at least find difficult to replicate. I'm not saying Guitar Hero is a bad game. I bet it's a hell of a lot of fun at parties. But playing Guitar Hero does not make you a musician, and many musicians would find it insulting to hear that their music would be awesome for a video game where people get to pretend that they are musicians by playing the music they worked so hard to create and produce with their hard earned talent.

It's his opinion, and he can have one, I respect that.

But it's not like I'm gonna say, "Well, maybe I'm wrong."

Ahh, gotcha. At least you recognize the difference.

I'm fully aware that my GH playing won't translate into being a great guitarist. Guitar Hero is all about rhythm and hand-eye coordination, whereas a real guitar is about notes, chords, hitting the right one, etc.

I'm not ignorant when it comes to realizing the difference between the two. I just prefer GH at the moment. I'm learning a lot about real guitar playing, so I'm sure eventually I'll prefer that.

I agree with the "12 year old" paragraph. I'm fully aware of what musicians do day-in and day-out to fulfill their dreams, etc.

I KNOW GH doesn't make me a great guitar player. Sure, some musicians have rejected GH, on the basis of, "What would this help us do?," but once they saw GH1 sell a million copies, they saw something in the game. That's how they got Aerosmith, Allman Brothers, etc. into #2. And once the musicians find out they can make a profit off the game, by having their song in it, and possibly leading to some albums being sold due to their song inclusion, then yes, it can be worth it.

This is really the first pure "Thread Hi-Jacking" with staying power that I've seen in a long time.
Amazing.
Just rename the thread and move it to misc. games.

Should I be ashamed or proud of being in this hi-jacking?

Ahhh, so you agree with me, then. ;) At any rate, Aerosmith and the Allman Brothers have nothing left to prove anymore. They've already done it all and sold a kabillion albums. For them, participating in a game like this is a merchandising thing and that's about it. It doesn't challenge their musical integrity. Duane Allman and Joe Perry already KNOW that even seasoned musicians can be hard pressed to replicate what they do, let alone kids with a plastic game controller. They've already staked their claim over the last thirty years. Newer bands may not see it that way and consider it insulting to say that what they do is something kids could also do with a video game controller. That's all I'm saying. :)

There should be an option for 'they're ok' since I like them to dance to in clubs, but I wouldn't listen to them while I'm doing my laundry.

Pretty impressive thread hijack. Quite an education to read.

System of a Down (also referred to as SOAD or System) is a four-piece Grammy-award winning Avant-gard metal band, formed in 1995 in Los Angeless, California. All four members are Armenian-americans, grandsons of Armenian Genocide survivors, and are widely known for their outspoken views found in many of their songs.

So what you think about this band? :)
They're one of my favorites.
Don't like Hypnotize and Steal This Album! though. There are a few decent songs but don't like those 2 albums. In fact, after falling hard for Mesmerize, I thought Hypnotize was quite a disappointment.

I'm going to play GH2 now. Because its awesome.

Prolly, I just didn't feel like looking. :o

Why isn't there a damned Aerosmith thread or a Van Halen thread? Give it to the bands that are actually thread-worthy. :cmad:

For clarification, System sings that stupid BYOB song, right?
I believe there was a Van Halen thread. Speaking of which, I heard there'll be a reunion tour with DLR! Not sure of there's an Aerosmith thread though. Definitely worthy of a thread. They are some of my favorites too.

SOAD RAWWKS!! I never got hypnotize though . . . never really heard any buzz about it; and they never quite replicated the intensity of their debut . . .
