Might as well start a thread about the trailers now since Snyder already opened the cat-bag in the most recent interview.

"Dr. Manhattan walking through Vietnam 200 feet tall, the Comedian riding with the 50-caliber rifle and shooting at the Viet Cong and burning out the village…"

"Rorschach being taken down by the SWAT cops..."

Alrity then...! :)

What do YOU wanna see in a perfect Watchmen-trailer?

And what do you think would make a good Watchmen-teasertrailer if you were to sell it hard to people who didn't have a clue about anything Watchmen?

A Shot of Nite Owl and the COmedian in the ....owl flying thing, shinign a light around and shining over the paint on the brick wall, "Who Wathes The Watchmen"

That should be the shot the trailer ends on.

That would be cool, but I'd do it with Rorschach and NiteOwl.

That alone would make my brain bleed out of my ears. An image of Nite Owl and Archie wouldnt hurt either.

Yeah, I guess they HAVE to show Manhattan in some superdisplay in order to get the rest of the audience to the theaters. So the vietnam-sequence would be quite effective.

Other trailer-shots that would rock the audience:

- Close-up shot of Rorschach entering Edward Blake's appartment (the first real clear shot of his "face".

- The NiteOwl-suit all dusty and old-looking

- Ozymandias in his super-office

- Ozymandias catching the bullet

- Manhattan on Mars

- Flashes of Edward Blake getting the s*** beaten out of him edited in between some of the above shots maybe...

Rorschach with the grappling hook should definately be seen in the trailer.

Yes, I agree about the grappling hook.

Certainly some things on Mars.

I think Adrian catching the bullet shot by Laurie would be too much. I would rather see his assassination attempt, and him beating the living hell out of the hitman.

I agree about Ozy catching the bullet, though perhaps a good shot for a trailer would be her pointing the gun, but we don't see who she's pointing at.

But it would most likely be good as one of those shots towards the end of a trailer, when things start getting faster and they begin to show more and more quick little scenes or images. Not something with a tremendous focus on it or anything.

the first teaser has got to include the Bloody Smiley.

the first trailer has to include Rorshach

everything else can be a 2 second montage of various scenes from the movie.

dreiberg f**king sally on the couch....giggity!
LOL! that would be a trailer for Geriatric Park.

My ideal teaser/trailer would include various scenes, probably the ones mentioned on this thread, and at the very end have a silent shot of the interior of Edward Blake's apartment with the broken window and then a zoom out the window and down to the ground with the pool of blood and the smiley face.

might as well repost this here

it needs to start with a shot of the hands on a yellow clock approaching midnight, then between every few shots show the hands ticking closer (the first shot should be of the heroes at Blake's funeral), whatever footage is shown, it should be shown with Rorschach's voice over and end with his quote from the book, "We do not do this thing because it is permitted. We do it because we have to. We do it because we are compelled." then the clock strikes midnight, and the camera quickly pulls back to reveal the the clock is really the smiley face logo. text over the logo then reads "on (release date)...Who Watches the Watchmen?"

the teaser should be rorshachs first journel entry to the point were its zooming up from the smiley face at the begining of the book.it goes all the way up to see rorshach standing on the roof of a building looking down.

I think that if this is marketed properly, there will be several varieties of trailers, among which I feel should include: those appealing to fans of 300, to pretty much guarantee that this film will have as big an opening weekend; those depicting Watchmen as a political film (during an election season mind you, to get all those fed up with the Bush administration into the theaters); those depicting over-the-top imagery to inspire the WTF response that Snyder has talked about in recent interviews.

For the latter variety, my ***** would go through the roof if it began like this:

Ignore all the text embedded in the images!

Kinetic WB logo followed by Kinetic DC logo, simultaneously with Dr. Manhattan's Voice-Over:

Dr. Manhattan (O.S.):
It's November. The newspapers call me a crimefighter, so the Pentagon says I must fight crime. In Moloch's underground vice-den, the sighs turn to screams of terror.

Cut to (a shaky [but not too much], hand-held shot [like something in Children of Men]) of Moloch's vice-den. There are sounds of cabaret and pedestrian terror. Gerard Butler is Detective Fine/Gallagher in left-foreground (indicating that he was, at one point in his career at least, corrupt -- an idea that will never be revisited in the story); Jeremy Irons as Moloch in right-foreground:

Gallagher instinctively begins to draw his sidearm before he realizes what is happening. The action lasts for about three seconds. Fade to Black.

CUT TO shot of Dr. Manhattan magically carpet bombing Vietnam, simultaneously with VO:
Dr. Manhattan (O.S.):
The morality of my activities escapes me.

Cue "Ride of the Valkyries" with a scratchiness that implies it is being played on an old gramaphone.
Cut to a barrage of fawked-up imagery from the comic (and ignore/omit all of the dialogue embedded in the images), cutting from shot-to-shot in time with the accented one-beats of the music:

Cut to black, with STARK YELLOW TEXT IN ICONIC WATCHMEN FONT:
"WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?"

Fade to black.
Text, in same font as above, reads:
WATCHMEN
ADAPTED FROM THE ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL BY ALAN MOORE
BY ZACK SNYDER,
THE DIRECTOR OF 300

I want the marketing for this movie to not try to sell it as a superhero movie, but as a crazy ****ing spectacle of a movie with just totally mind-blowing scenes like the one's Zack Snyder already mentioned. When people see the trailer for this I want them to go "Holy **** what the **** was that?!?!" That's the only way to sell Watchmen to the masses.
