Teen Says Cop Made Her Strip

Unless the cops confiscate it which in some states they actually have a legal right to do which I think is far too much authority.

Why would he need to look for a vaginal piercing anyway...?

People need to educate themselves on police procedure. If a warrant had come up in her name, she would have immediately been arrested. He can't let a person he has in custody go if they indeed have a warrant; that should have sent up a red flag to the girls right there.

well she was 17. Most people don't know police procedure let alone a teenager who has never been in trouble with the police.

Some people actually do trust the police and take them at their word which the dirty cops use against them.

In a related news bump: "Aurora officer, accused of sexually exploiting a teenager, resigns"

Denver Post said:
An Aurora police officer suspected of having a teenager take sexually explicit photos of herself on the officer's cell phone camera has resigned.

Michael Mangino, 50, who was on leave without pay since he was charged with sexual exploitation of a child in March, resigned this morning from the Aurora Police Department.

"I am relieved that Mr. Mangino is no longer a police officer in this agency," Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said in a department media release.

Mangino faces sexual exploitation of a child charges and the case against him is ongoing.

The case stems from a March 9 incident in which Mangino drove a runaway suspected of smoking pot to Children's Hospital for a urine analysis so she could be medically cleared to go to the Arapahoe County Juvenile Assessment Center.

According to an arrest affidavit and testimony during a preliminary hearing, the girl told investigators that Mangino said he had started taking photos of all the people he arrested. The girl told investigators that she thought Mangino wanted her to take photos of her naked body using his personal cellphone, and so she did.

Investigators found the photos on Mangino's cellphone, according to the arrest affidavit and testimony.

Dirty cops are far more common than people think. Most people are just scared to speak out or feel helpless. Who you gonna go to, the cops? They look after their own first, only if something leaks out and gets embarrassing do they act on it. The Sheriffs are bad around here, or were a few years ago.

I will not argue that there are indeed there are some people who would shot be wearing a badge, I am somewhat skeptical of this story. The seven month wait does not add up at all. And, on the other hand, there are people who go and cry abuse when they do not tell the full story at all, and in some cases, make it up. It's really easy to jump in on the bandwagon of anti-law enforcement.

In short, there's corruption and other manifestations of moronic evil on both sides of the fence, and one has to realize that is not the occupation that presupposes evil, but just humanity, in general. Sure, there are some bad apples in the bunch, but there are also some extraordinary people who risk their lives every day, combatting this legion that attacks ceaselessly.

Ok, so the police department is corrupt, but IAD as well???

I'm involved in Law Enforcement...

Let's assume everything this girl is claiming is true. I say this because citizens, believe it or not, do sometimes make complaints against police officers that are complete fabrications. They do this because they know that no matter if it's a lie or not an investigation will have to take place and could possibly get the officer on paid suspension pending the investigation... so fabricated complaints do come in sometimes.

Example: I knew a 17-year-old who had his friends punch him in the face so that way he could later claim a police officer had caused the injury earlier that day when he was stopped by the police officer in relation to a call for service.

Warrants...

-If a warrant for someone's arrest is confirmed, they must be arrested. Generally... there's no "release" from an arrest warrant. HOWEVER, sometimes IF the warrant is out-of-state that state may decline extradition/wanting to pick up the arrested individual from another state. Usually this is the case for arrest warrants for misdemeanors. So it is possible to be wanted and not be arrested. People wanted for minor crimes can flee the state they are wanted in, not return, get stopped in another state, and let go because the state of origin doesn't feel the crime is enough to bother picking them up.

Female Officers...

Not all police departments have enough female officers on the department to have one working at all times. There is NO general order (at least for my department) that states a female MUST be searched by a female officer. It's a good guideline to avoid sexual assault complaints, but there's no constitutional right for a female arrested citizen to be searched-incident-to-arrest by the gender of her choice. If there isn't a female officer available, it's wise to have another officer present to watch you search the arrested female. Typically, arrests shouldn't be made by yourself any ways, but then again I don't know what this officer's back-up partners were busy with.

Without knowing the full story...

The only possible explanation I can fathom for this officer is that the warrant may have been for a female with a matching name/date of birth and he was advised that the arrest warrant was for a female known to have certain tattoos/piercings, so he was using that information to confirm the warrant/confirm he had the correct individual.

Again, I'm REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY trying to think out of the box on why this officer would want to check for a vaginal piercing...

And even if this is the reason why, he used extremely poor judgement and he's probably a complete idiot.

It's not customary to get females out of the vehicle and ask them to lift their skirts. I don't believe Terry v. Ohio covers that.

lol
