Ten Trends That Are Destroying Video Games

Well, the novelty of the WII will fade, especially when people realise most of the games released are crap, and that it's pretty much a gimmick that most developers probably don't know how to take proper advantage of. I don't think it will totally disappear, but it will no longer have the phenom status it is currently enjoying. Unless game developers start cranking out loads of good games.

The majority of people, the mass audience, who bought a Wii only play WiiSports, WiiPlay, WiiFit and now WiiMusic (Which sold very well :whatever:), they couldn't care less that the rest of the games are crap.

The Wii will start falling off eventually, sure, all consoles will, but it won't be because all the people who bought a Wii don't buy the other games... that already happens.

The Wii is doing just fine without a fully stocked lineup of good games. I don't see Nintendo changing that philosophy too much.

On a sort of side note, I bought World at War for the Wii, because the reviews were decent and I thought it'd be fun for me and my girlfriend to play. That game is terrible, I really can't stand it, it's so awkward and absolutely no fun to play. Even my extremely casual gaming girlfriend hates it, and would rather completely suck at CoD4 on the 360 then play that pos again.

The Wii is the reality TV of games at this point. Cheap production, huge sales, terrible quality.

Personally, I don't think world war II isn't a novelty as such, more it hasn't been approached creatively. The Call Of Duty and Medal Of Honor games are pretty nterchangeable for the most part. Brothers In Arms was more interesting, Company Of Heroes was also a more interesting. With Call Of Duty 4's 10+ million sales I'm kind of expecting "Modern Warfare" which already previously existed, to be taken to a leeched to death level.

If I never see another WWII shooter, I'd be happy. But I'm sure there are at least 3 or 4 lined up for release in the next year already, with another 2 devs thinking up some slight difference in approach that somehow qualifies as a breathtaking new twist to the WWII formula in their sad little minds as I type this.

Hitler as the main playable character.

I'm looking forward to the new Wolfenstein game.
It looks like they have changed the formula though so it might suck balls.
Return To Castle Wolfenstien was awesome fun, kinda what doom III should have been

You do know you dont have to purchase said games, dont you?

I know that, but think of all the new IP that could come from those devs working on something other than yet another WWII rehash.

Nowadays, every character is either a cynical, grizzled military type, a soldier who is an everyman thrust into a situation, an emo anti-hero who is a lone wolf, a lone wolf who is an emo anti-hero, an average joe who gets weird powers thrust upon him and must decide to be either good or evil, etc. They just take those things and cycle them, or put them together or take them apart at will. I commend Mirror's Edge for at least doing something remotely different.

I'd really love to play as more normal people in games. Like, normal people, not normal people who get powers or normal people who have to become hardened warriors or whatever. That's part of why games like Heavy Rain and I Am Alive look so interesting to me. I'm sort of tired of superhuman space marines and badass soldiers.

Talking about Space Marines, is that Aliens:Colonial Marines still coming out? Or has it been canned? After all these years you would think they would make a game based on that by now.

It's still in development, I think. No idea when it's supposed to come out, though.

Excellent analogy. No wonder I have so many ill-feelings towards Wii... I absolutely despise Reality TV. :(

Same here. I don't hate the Wii itself, though. Just the relentless mounds of shovelware it's become associated with.

I want to know what happened to the Virtual Console. That was one of the saving graces of the system and frankly I couldn't name a single game that's been released for it in the past several months.

Well, there's Beyond Oasis from the Genesis, which I was a huge fan of and never got to finish, but that's coming out on a Sega compilation for 360 later on, so I'm just gonna get that. :)

Haha I am so pissed I bought World at War for the Wii. :cmad: I'm never going to touch that thing again, and I didn't even beat the first level.
