Terrence Howard "officially" signed to Luke Cage movie

I'm going to confirm this and get back to the board. Give me a week at most.

imbd.com has him listed as Diamondback (in negotiations)

Still no official word though I'm going through everyone I know. Few more days.

Perfect!

Y'know, he's pretty awesome in "Shark"

So, if by any chance somethin happens to Tyrese, I wouldn't mind Simmons.

LL Cool J would do Luke Cage in a heartbeat. It's the only type of role that would elevevate him to a leading man position where he'd get a massive check if the first film did well. Otherwise he'll just play co-starring roles. At least that's how it seems. He's already built big enough and I'm sure he'd get bigger for the role. And he's got no problem with thug look or speak. He's also pretty good in front of the camera. He could carry it.

I can't believe you're serious about this. LL Cool J as Luke Cage is like The Rock as Captain Marvel. It's just silly.

Ugh nevermind... I still think he would be a bad choice, but after taking a quick glance at the movie's imdb board, there is also a LOT worse. I don't think a single good casting suggestion has ever come from there.

or Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue)

I'm not at all familiar with his work so I can't comment on acting ability, but based on looks alone I'd say he's a fairly solid choice. My one complaint is this: My own preference would be for Luke Cage to be played by someone who LOOKS like a very mean, evil person, so that when you see him you already have him pegged as some criminal, so that it just seems all the more awesome once you see that he's a good guy. That guy up there, while having a good physical build, looks like he wouldn't hurt a fly.

True dat! I just never cared much for the Luke Cage character. I'd care not to see a movie at all. Black Panther would be better.

It's all about the acting. I'm sure that in those publicity photos he's not trying to act/look like a thug or a bad@ss mutha

I'm not too familiar with Luke Cage's villians, but who is Diamondback?

Former Gangmate/buddy of Luke Cage before he became the hero for hire. Throws knives...no superpowers...wears clothes that look like snake skin.

I just googled the dude.

A former gang member, very typical and all the more reason why a Cage film shouldn't be made. I just care not to see this thug of a movie that will be made. Cage is just a walking sterotype. Everything about this film will scream sterotype. I'm sure John Singleton will be right at home making this film.

Angry black men
prison
criminal
drugs
gangs
the hood(along with the potty mouth black kids and sassy black women)
dirty cops
wrongly convicted
street slang

I can watch an episode of The Wire or OZ to get all that.

I think that Luke Cage is a character better suited for a TV series...where you can use that gang backdrop...but can really flesh out the character(s) and make them more than walking clichés.

Although, to be fair...Luke Cage was a walking cliché when he was created back in the 70s.

I couldnt agree with you more. I think the perfect choice for Cage in that aspect would be Ving Rhames. I mean just look at him! I can imagine him saying "Sweet Xmas!" and not making it sound corny. he is the realest ***a from the street in Hollywood we have today.

Yes, but none of the people of those series is super strong and with a superhard skin.

Rhames would have been perfect 15 years ago.

Make that 25.

the guy next to him, on the other hand:

would be perfect. Fortunately it just so happens that he IS the director's choice to play Luke Cage. The only thing I don't like about him is his damned squinty eyes.
