The 25 Greatest Spider-Man Stories (IGN)

....Well, it's not as bad as I thought it would be when I first saw it was an IGN list. For the most part and through gritted teeth, I'll say that it's actually okay. Here's some thoughts:

1. I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with Spider-Man: Blue being that high in the list. Kraven's Last Hunt and the Death of Harry Osborn were way better in my mind. Blue was a good story and all but the two I just mentioned were Spidey HOF material.

2. SHED should be allowed nowhere on this list. And that's coming from one of the few guys that enjoyed SHED. It was a good story in my mind, but when you're talking about the greatest Spidey stories ever, I can think of several others that deserve a nod - like the Thanos story from adjective-less Spider-Man. If it's strictly there for the sole reason to get a lizard story on the list because of the movie, you could still do better than SHED.

3. I'm glad that "When Cometh...the Commuter" is recognized because I feel like it's sometimes forgotten about. Peter David back then is what Dan Slott is these days, a guy that totally nails who Spider-Man is.

4. I'll buy "No One Dies" at #12. I know how some people feel about fresh stories making the list but when I first read it, I knew I was reading an instant classic. Slott and Martin produced one of the finest single issue comic book stories in the last decade - EASILY.

5. It's sad to see how the Wedding issue has fallen so far back on the list. That story used to be so much higher but Marvel ruined that. I blame them more than I do IGN for it ranking so low. :csad:

6. The lack of any one issue by Paul Jenkins is a MAJOR FAIL. Just like what I started talking about with SHED, the Thanos story could have been there, any single issue by Jenkins and Buckingham should be there instead of the Ultimate stuff. I'm totally biased against Ultimate but I don't care. Jenkins stuff was 50 times better than anything Ultimate. And that's a FACT.

The list isn't bad but it could be better.I agree Jenkins should be on there somewhere. He was always good with stories that were small in scale but really heartfelt.

I'm shocked that Amazing Spider-Man #200 is not on that list... it's the issue where Spider-Man has come full circle... a powerless Peter Parker against the man who killed his Uncle Ben.. need I say more... it's a top 5 story on anyone's list...

I'm glad they included "The Conversation" probably one of my favorite moments in JMS's run.

Yeah Blue is good, but way too high on this list. Probably my biggest problem with it. Also, I don't mind giving Ultimate Spider-Man some cred, but I'm not sure I'd pick Ultimate Fallout or Ultimate Venom. If you were to pick an awesome USP story arc, how can you not pat BMB on the back for taking the atrocity that was the Clone Saga and making it feel fresh, fun, and interesting?
