The novel covers Diego's childhood to when he becomes Zorro which is still a pretty young age, Clooney is to old.
In the established canon of the novel Diego's Father is Spanish & Diego's mother is half Native American half Spanish, Clooney as a product of this union is completely wrong!
They should really cast somebody much younger and actually Hispanic/Latino.

The white shirt and blond hair was an odd choice though. And the kid mini-Zorro and dog-Zorro didn't help, but it was charming. Had some great battles and villains.

If I could I'd redigitize the whole thing too look like this though, and re-release it... If they can re-colorize entire movies, they can certainly do this

And of course I'd make the horse black.

Since Mask of Zorro Diego was a pretty faithful extension of the already established Zorro canon, and doesn't really contradict any "continuity" established in the Allende Novel. The origins of Mask of Zorro Diego is pretty much what you're going to get anyway, since they are in effect the same character. Even though they are calling it a reboot.

So if you still want to imagine this new movie's "continuity" as a prequel to The Mask of Zorro, I doubt there will be much conflict.

Unless there is some glaring difference in this new movie thats what I plan to do.

Mask really could be tied to almost any past screen incarnation of Zorro. From the Williams series to the Regehr series to the various films.

For me personally, seeing Zorro without a mustache is like seeing a fox without a tail, It just looks so wrong!.

Well, he's always had a bandana for a mask, but I don't see why they wouldn't have him wear his hat. That's almost like having The Lone Ranger or The Shadow without their hats. That's like 50% of their visual charm.

Agreed, the bandana has for the most part always been a part of his mask, either separate or one solid piece, long before Ironfist.
And it's remained mostly consistent in movies and illustrations, varying some on how much it covers the nose.

As far as the hat, again I agree with rogue trooper, it's an iconic part of the character, an unmistakable silhouette. He doesn't always wear it as seen in the pics. above, and I admit he also looks badass without it, but why would they abandon it?
Why would they have to chose one or the other? When he has both the bandanna style mask, and the hat.

Filmation's The New Adventures of Zorro remains my favorite animated version of the character(the only animated series Filmation had animated overseas):

I liked that cartoon, and that whole block of Filmation adventure shows - Tarzan, Lone Ranger, Flash Gordon & Zorro.

Although the animation was still repetitive (reused scenes) and the action obviously tame by today's standards, (american TV animation was notorious for having to be brought in at near zero budget which was doom for more action oriented shows.
And the Censors were notorious for disallowing violence, especially on the more "realistic" shows or even any perceived intent of violence, or the creation of to much "tension" or "anticipation" in the story, because we all know how bad that is for kids.

Still, (rant aside) the show did what it could with what they allowed, and they pulled it off pretty well.
There were two secondary characters made up for the show I remember really liking. One was a recurring potential romantic interest and rival - Lucia the renagade Pirate (kind of to Zorro what Catwoman was to Batman)

The other was an all dressed in white opposite phantom type "Zorro" even the horse was white, who was hired by Ramon to befriend and betray Zorro, who in the end, ends up instead allying himself with him.

I didn't catch a lot of these, but one fun episodes I did see was with some eccentric inventor Doctor Henry Wayne (played by Adam West) who is hired by the Commandante to set a trap for Zorro.

Instead Zorro befriends the inventor and whisks him away on his quick black mode of transportation, that takes him to his secret lair & his secret laboratory, under the mansion.

Dr. Wayne (Adam West) is impressed, and the unspoken implication is he'll pass down Zorro's caped crusader crime fighting technique to his descendants.

-Zorro the Legend Begins sounds fine, although all they really need is Zorro. ​

-The Forging Of sounds like they'll really focus on the blade aspect, which is great if they follow La Justicia and elements of the Mysterious Circle/La Verdadera Destreza etc. which would be great.
-Zorro Begins is really lame and sounds like a desperate attempt to mooch in on the Bat franchise, when they really don't need to.

Efram Zimblist Jr played Diego's father in the first season and he went on to voice Alfred in Batman TAS.

The Family Channel series is underrated. it was simple but a lot of fun. Especially when I was young.
