This is one of my all time favourite books. Aside from being wonderful from a comic book fan perspective (all the little cameos and nods to comics are fun) it's just a wonderful love story for both of the main characters. Not to mention a great story about how they repair their lives, how the build it up, and how it all comes crashing down.
it's also one of the better representations of a queer character in fiction IMO. Sam Clay gets a really well thought out love story and the book shows what it meant to grapple with sexuality in that time period. It's even implied that he will get his happy ending
I want there to be a movie of this soooo badly. There were also some comics released based on the characters in the novel (the escapist). I'd love to check those out.
It in my top ten list of books. The prose is fantastic. It's especially interesting when he writes about the Escapist and Luna Moth (?) in literary form, which as a writer I find interesting in comparing it to other writings and comic book material.
Not to many novels about "pop culture" win the Pulitzer.
The part I couldn't understand is
how Sam got specifically outed during the Congressional hearing
