The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Video Game Thread - Part 1

It would be cool to have a Spider-Man game based on the movie where you can play as multiple characters, including the villains.

Just imagine playing as Aleksei driving the truck and smashing through cars. Would be pretty neat. I think that since they don't have the time or money to make a very detailed sandbox environment, they should avoid using free roaming and focus on level based Spider-Man games.

But the whole thing with Spider-Man is that he only works properly in freeroam environments. Otherwise you can't capture that sense of acrobatic movement and freedom you get by being Spider-Man. That was one of the biggest critic points made by players of the first game. They wanted freeroam levels and not the linear sewers or lab levels we had. People loved the Hunter fights because they were in the city and you immediately had that sense of freedom and also a bit of a showoff feeling (citizens are there to watch you fight a huge flying robot?).

I can agree on that Spidey and free roaming imo go hand in hand they were made for each other, I couldn't stand SD and EOT because it was level based it might've had a good story but thats it.

But what's the point of free roaming if they can't get it right? I love SM2 and USM a lot, but you can't do anything around the city. Same with Web of Shadows and Amazing Spider-Man. Not saying it has to be as detailed as GTA games, but at least make the city really fun to explore.

Spider-Man solves crimes, he doesn't enter shops or buys cars lol

SM2 and Web of Shadows had the good amount of crimes to solve a Spidey game need.

IMO Spidey doesn't just solve crimes. Being Spider-Man also means being Peter Parker (to me atleast). Having every day struggles and duties. I really hope they have atleast a few optional Peter missions (meet Gwen/Harry/MJ/aunt May, go to highschool etc.) and Peter Parker gameplay (being able to freeroam as Peter). In the end you aren't really Spider-Man if you are forced to stay in the costume 24/7, because a big part of being Spider-Man is also handling your normal every day life as Peter.

I know that they probably wont add anything like that (at most the promised Peter detective linear missions...) but one can dream.

There is more to free roam than buying cars or entering shops. There should be a heavy amount of detail in the city. Just solving crimes gets boring after a while.

This. Here we would have our definitive Spider-Man game.

Imagine you could play as Peter 24/7 and switch into Spidey at will? Something goes down at Midtown High and you have to hide somewhere in order to change into Spidey. Or fighting thugs in the morning with a timer for making it to class by 8:30. Fighting baddies during the night while making it home by an 11 p.m curfew. THAT would be a fun game, you'd feel more like Peter Parker opposed as just being Spider-Man.

"Australia Project"?

Kraven?

I'd pre-order instantly, GOTY for me. It's just not the same if you don't have a time limit as Spider-Man. Make it to class by 8:30 = even more rewarding when you make it in time even though you had to fight crime.

But these objectives should always be optional missions otherwise they'd have to deal with a huge outcry from the non-hardcore fanbase (that just wants to enjoy the webswinging and crime fighting).

The news that we are finally going back to the realistic swinging of Spider-Man 2/Ultimate Spider-Man is what excites me the most. However, it is also what annoys me the most because it really makes me wonder what took them a whole decade to realize they should go back to the perfect web-swinging that everyone praised. :oldrazz:

Yeah... I won't play a Spider-Man game to go to school or see my aunt. I can do that stuff by myself. I play a Spidey game to swing, fight, quip and crawl.

Playing as the Peter Parker side of Spider-Man (except Peter using those abilities to make his stuff) would bore me a lot most of the time.

I really don't see us getting much Peter Parker stuff, if any, in the near future. They're having a hard enough time pleasing people with the Spidey parts, and that's all 95% of the public will care about. Video game design is a tough business and you have to manage the time and money you spend on your development really well, and at this point they're going to look at adding a deep Peter Parker aspect to the game to be a waste of time since most people are going to want to get right to punching supervillains in the nose.

We'll get to do some Peter Parker stuff in the TASM2 apparently.

I may give this thread a break at least until we have a trailer or news I mean if the PR has it then it shouldn't be long right? Well for me its downright depressing at least for me

Some Peter Parker gameplay has a lot of potential to really delve into the idea of Peter being who he really is and Spider-Man being the mask.

If it isn't COD, it's on the back burner.

I had read that, but I really doubt it'll amount to much. Movie tie-in games are so difficult to make because of short production periods and limited resources. It's likely going to be just barely enough to brag about it on the back of the box.

I'm just lurking, laughing every time someone cries about the lack of a trailer.

I was just playing spider-man 3(having a blast) when I realized something. If we have a camera again how about they allow spidey to web it somewhere and take pictures but whatever angle you put it at you'd still be in control but the ang;e you put it at you'd have to adjust to whether in combat or web swinging.
I hope they brought the air tricks back man i loved those.

I hope they retain the close up camera of TASM with the new web swinging. One of my favorite features of that game.

I think the most we ever got of Peter Parker was in SM2: The Game where you walk into the Daily Bugle for a minute to talk to Jonah. Boring.

We actually got that in SM3, as well.

People always seem to forget about SM3. :(
