The Big Apple Thread - Part 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9......

New thread apparently. This is for discussion of all things relating to New York City. Talk away! :)

Snowpocalypse Now! I need a new shovel.

Glad I don't own a home.

Cool! Give us your money!

My best friend from High School lives in Manhattan now. He is SO lucky. His family is fairly well off. His mom helped him buy his condo I think. I tried to get him to let me come live with him to no avail. :o

Well, that's weird. If I had a best friend who was coming to NY the first thing I'd do is offer them a place to stay.

Oh he'd let me STAY here if I was coming for a visit. He won't let me live with him for some reason. He lived with a chick for awhile, he's single now and doesn't, and he says he likes his space and living alone. Whatever.

I've had roommates. Some were good friends, some have been girlfriends. The living arrangments nearly always ended badly. Don't take your friends desire to live alone personally.

Very understandable. I'm not mad about it, just disappointed because it would be nice to be able to move to NYC and get the hell out of Tyler, Texas. :p

I think we nearly had a foot of snow in Brooklyn. It was tough to shovel out the snow.

We got a foot of snow here last year. It was SO weird. I'd never seen more than an inch or two in my life before that.

Might be moving to NYC in the fall. Any advice for a dumb, naive suburban kid?

I'm in the Bronx, and even though I don't go to the city much, I love being there and have always wished I could move there for a while if I could somehow ever afford it. Yet, for some reason, I wouldn't want to raise a family in the city. I'd rather move somewhere more suburban for that.

I could understand where he's coming from. Personally, if I had my own place, I'd probably let a friend stay over once or twice, but never permanently or for an long time. There's just something about having your own personal space and alone time in your place that I'd just hate to sacrifice, even for a friend or sibling.

**** suburbia. They're called SUBurban for a reason. It's the worst place to raise children because there are few stores within walking distance, and therefore the parents must go shopping for themselves.

Exactly, those little brats won't be able to go anywhere:twisted:

No, but seriously, my brother lives nearby with his with his wife and kids while my sister lives alone with her kids in California, and I feel like the different environments have had some influence on how they've been raised. I just feel like my brother's kids have picked up so many things that my sister's kids haven't been able to because they live in a place that is much quieter and calmer than where we live. And I guess part of that appeals to me too since I'm more of a quiet, reserved kind of person.
