The Callisto Protocol - Spiritual successor to Dead Space

I've been playing for several hours and I'll be honest, it's just...ok. Certainly not terrible of course, but it hasn't totally wowed me. The combat is fine, but I'm still not crazy about dodging. I think it would have been better to allocate that feature to a button or use some counter system.

My two biggest complaints are the lack of a "map" or guidance system. It doesn't have to be a map. A simple icon pointing you in a direction would suffice.

My second complaint would be the lack of weapons. Just the one baton and different gun "attachments" gets old quick.
How does it compare to what one would expect of a modern Dead Space?

Almost to the end at this point (escaping the abandoned underground). I just about like it but more and more I find it frustrating and annoying than enjoyable. I feel like it still could use more polish and refinement.

Melee attacks and dodging would be a great... if it worked like it was meant to. Enemies are frustrating to deal with, especially when they gang up on you and despite dodging or feeling like you dodged on time, they still hit you.

They range between hard and annoying (the mutating ones) and pathetically easy (the blind ones you see multitudes of) despite the first appearance being the harder and then the easier. I hear Two Head is a disappointing fight too. Just another bullet sponge boss.

Level design is hit and miss. Some places are obvious whereas sometimes it's so dark and full of debris you might miss where you are meant to go. Exploring different areas sometimes feels like it was worth it. Other times you just find some low value item or maybe a collectable (the audio logs).

And the save system? Awful. It saves frequently enough most of the time but manual saves are a joke. It just kicks you back to your previous autosave without any progress made kept.

I really wanted to like it more. The Dead Space comparison goes only so far before it just feels like a lesser imitation. I hope the actual Dead Space remake is better. I don't think it could be worse.

I really should have waited for it to be discounted. And maybe given a few more patch cycles.

I finally figured out how to dodge effectively now. Man I can't believe I was so dumb before.

That is in won as in Korean currency. What that translates to in US dollar though I don't know.

Google tellsme that's about 160m in dollars.

So I beat the game yesterday. This was an overall "eh" experience. IMO what this game lacks is just more content and stuff to do.

Upgrades to inventory and or Jacob.
More melee weapons.
More outfits.
Unique collectibles that unlock stuff maybe?

Oh and way more money drops.

Id give it a 6 out of 10. It's ok but lacking in content. And it also wasn't scary at all.

I'd give it a 5 although I still have not finished it yet. I just have not felt like it. That is not a good sign. Other games I feel more invested in.

Well thats what happened to me. I played it for a few days at first, then lost interest for a month. Since I spent money on it I figured i gotta finish it. So I speed ran it over two days and beat it.

Chief Executive Officer Glen Schofield is leaving, a Krafton representative confirmed Wednesday, saying he has "decided to pursue new opportunities." Striking Distance's chief operating officer and chief financial officer are also leaving. Krafton said all three departures were voluntary.

"Voluntary" should have quotes around it. He founded the studio. This was clearly his game and it flopped. I played it and the Dead Space remake and the remake was so, so much better.

Its a damn shame.
Ive been watching trailers and started watching a walkthrough of The Callisto Protocol...and the game had a lot of potential.

The World, characters, the look...all very interesting.
Its sad that the game in the end was this lifeless and all.

There was a decent foundation under it.
