The Court of Owls Speculation Thread

Nothing's officially confirmed, but I think there's enough evidence in the trailer for us to at least talk about it.

Let's discuss the possibility of the Court of Owls appearing in The Batman, and all the implications that come with that.

I've said it a hundred thousand times before and I'll say it again; I really want to see the Court of Owls in one of Reeves' films. I don't know if they'll show up in The Batman or if they'll just be teased for a sequel, but the possibility for either option has me incredibly excited.

Seeing as I was a big fan of the Court of Owls storyline in the comics, I would love to see a live action version of it.

Thanks for this thread! I am so excited for the Court to pop up because there is SO much you can do with this concept. It’s really deep ****. And the potential to be the most chilling thing ever put into a comic book movie.

You can explore Gotham in ways a general audience wouldn’t ever imagine. And tie it to the HBO series.

I know people have problems with the way that storyline evolved, but that’s okay. Reeves can take it to new levels while staying true to the setup.

This may not be a popular sentiment, but I honestly wouldn't mind if they omitted the Talons and kept the Court as a shadowy, "Eyes Wide Shut"-style cult made up of the Gotham elite. Those members with the white owl masks are infinitely more creepy to me.

Leave the action sequences to the Riddler as he works to expose them.

Exactly what I'm hoping for. The Court is a concept that, to me, actually does work better a little stripped down. All the Talon and Owl Man stuff just felt messy.

As I said in one of the other threads, the vibe that we got from the teaser is just too perfect for the Court of Owls for them to not be on the table.

And I'm guessing that's what the trailer might be alluding to. The Riddler is committing these crimes to get Batman on the Court's trail. Presumably the Court had done something to The Riddler to earn his wrath, or perhaps he just uncovered them on his own and this is more of an act of extreme vigilantism. A darker mirror to Batman's efforts.

I'd go as far as to say that I can't see how it would't be a central aspect of this movie. It just makes way too much sense.

The fact that this is in the trailer absolutely blows my mind like I'm so freaking stunned. This cannot be a coincidence. I hope the court is a blend of realistic hidden cabal of gotham elite like a concept. But also dip into the comic book aspect with some faceless talon assassins (or maybe they have some surprising identities, but not reanimated so it fits the tone). I just need it. I need it all.

I don't know, I usually dislike the "deep convoluted conspiracy behind everything" and annoyingly Gotham has about 5 of these going on at any one time but it seems people like this one.

Would love for the Court to show up. I agree with those who have said strip it down though. No real need for the Talons, at least not for the time being.

I've only read Court of Owls/City of Owls/Night of the Owls once each. All three are on sitting my shelf about six feet away. I need to reread them.

I think of the talons as some shadowy assassins making people disappear. Plus it doesn't hurt to have the element of a physical adversary to beat the crap out of Bruce. But even they can be stripped down.

That is fascinating. As a Brit I had zero knowledge of Bohemian Grove. I've just been reading up on them. Did Scott Snyder ever say if he took any inspiration for the Court from BG's use of the owl?

If the Court is indeed part of this story I hope they manage to keep it out of the marketing. I'm sure most of the plot will leak at some point but it'd be nice if official stuff didn't drop too many hints.

Was surprised to see this as well. Wouldn’t mind assassins for the Owls as long as it’s done plausibly.

Also absolutely love the Zodiac visage and comparisons for the Riddler.

That’s essentially what it is ... a secret society of elite, a hidden cabal within Gotham’s power structure made up of very powerful individuals manipulating city events.

Bohemian Grove, Freemasons, Builderberg, Skull and Bones, Rothchilds and Rockefeller types.
