The Messengers - “And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.” (Revelation 9) In the white-hot sun of the New Mexico desert, scientist Vera Ivanov watches in fascination as a mysterious object plummets to Earth and explodes in a blinding flash, sending out a shock wave that briefly stops her heart. But Vera is not the only one affected by the blast: she is instantly and mysteriously connected to four other strangers, who also collapse only to miraculously come back to life hours later. Erin, a young mother desperate to protect her 7-year-old daughter from an abusive ex-husband; Peter, a troubled high school student who finally lashes out to end the constant bullying he can no longer endure; Raul, a federal agent looking to escape his undercover assignment in a violent Mexican drug cartel; and Joshua, Jr., a charismatic second-generation televangelist following in his father’s footsteps – all awaken after the pulse with powers they can barely believe, from inexplicable strength to the ability to heal others. Most mysterious of all is the figure known only as The Man, who offers Vera the one thing she wants most in life – to be reunited with her kidnapped son – if she will help him with one morally complicated task. That task puts Vera on a collision course with nurse Rose Arvale who, after a seemingly random act of violence left her in a coma for seven years, suddenly begins to stir. As Joshua, Jr. prophesizes, the wheels of Revelation have begun to turn, and this group of strangers might be the only hope for preventing the impending Rapture…or causing it. The series stars Shantel VanSanten (“Gang Related,” “One Tree Hill”) as Vera, Jon Fletcher (“City of Dreams”) as Joshua Jr., Sofia Black-D’Elia (“Betrayal,” “Gossip Girl”) as Erin, JD Pardo (“Revolution”) as Raul, Joel Courtney (“Super 8”) as Peter, Anna Diop (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as Rose and Diogo Morgado (“Son of God,” “Sol de Inverno”) as The Man. THE MESSENGERS is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment, in association with Thunder Road Pictures with executive producers Trey Callaway (“Revolution,” “CSI: NY”), Basil Iwanyk (“The Town,” “The Expendables” film franchise, “Clash of the Titans” film franchise) and co-executive producers Eoghan O’Donnell (“Teen Wolf”), Kent Kubena (the upcoming “Gods of Egypt,” “Turistas”) and Ava Jamshidi. The pilot was directed by Stephen Williams (“Lost”).

Really want to see footage for this. Get your ass in gear, CW. Just because the show is midseason doesn't mean you have to wait that long to release a trailer. :o

ugh..please no. I want nothing to do with any sort of "rapture' storyline.

Seems very interesting and very adult. Two characters with kids? CW aint playin around.

'Homeland,' 'True Blood' Alums Board CW's 'Messengers' (Exclusive)

Navid Negahban and Lauren Bowles will recur on the midseason sci-fi drama

The CW's sci-fi drama The Messengers has enlisted two new faces.

Homeland alum Navid Negahban and True Blood's Lauren Bowles have booked recurring roles on the midseason series from writer/co-EP Eoghan O'Donnell (Teen Wolf), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Messengers centers on a group of seemingly unconnected strangers who die from an energy pulse after a mysterious object crashes down to Earth. They awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending apocalypse.

Bowles, who has played Holly on the HBO vampire drama for the past four years, will portray Sen. Cindy Richards, a hard-working, passionate politician driven by a painful personal past. When she crosses paths with the so-called Messengers, she's not only in the midst of a re*election campaign, but also on the verge of making choices that may have a long-lasting impact far beyond the Beltway.

Negahban, who played terrorist Abu Nazir on the Showtime drama, is set to play a Middle Eastern prime minister whose responsibility of keeping peace in his volatile country weighs heavily on him, and may force him to make some very unpopular decisions.

Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill) leads the cast, which includes Jon Fletcher, Sofia Black-D’Elia, JD Pardo, Joel Courtney, Anna Diop, Craig Frank and Diogo Morgado.

The Messengers is set for a midseason debut; an official premiere date has not yet been announced. Trey Callaway and Basil Iwanyk are on board to exec produce, with Kent Kubena, Ava Jamshidi and Duane Clark set as co-EPs. Stephen Williams directed the pilot for CBS Television Studios and Thunder Road.

Bowles is repped by Innovative, Main Title and Stone Meyer; Negahban is with United and Impression.

I don't know why they spent time and money on this show only to put it on Fridays, they obviously have no faith in it.

I don't think it's a lack of faith as much as their shelf space is just too limited. Both of their new fall shows worked out well enough that they couldn't just wrap one of them up at 13 episodes and slip in a midseason show. They get two hours a night instead of three, so they had to make do. It's just unfortunate for this show.

They should have kept The100 at 13 episodes. With them renewing all of their shows M-Thur, I don't think they will be picking up any shows except for maybe 1 or 2.

Looks different. I'm in.

WOW, this looks sooo good. The CW has been killing it lately, you can definitely count me in too. :wow:

I am sorry you can't tell me that Reign(Thursday's at 9) deserves that slot and it might be time to try something new there

The CW might just have been better served to make The Messengers a summer replacement show and give it a better timeslot(either that or take one of it's lower rated shows and show episodes from Jan to march non stop then put Messengers in that slot)

You might have a point about Reign, but I don't think running it over the summer would do it any favors.

They might be able to attract some interest by airing the first episode after one of their more successful shows (and giving what comes after it a week off), before airing the second episode in it's usual Friday slot. I don't know, maybe Arrow?

Forgot to post ahead of time, but this premieres tonight at 9. Curious to see how it is.

Well damn, i was going to record it but i forgot.

Way to suck at life Sawyer.

I just happened to luck into it in the first couple of minutes... I liked it... I'll continue to watch it, especially since there's nothing else on Friday night that I like and also since the first season of 12 Monkeys ended last week, so this will do...

I was kind of eh about it, but I'll stick it out for at least a couple more episodes.

Curious to see what the deal is with the woman shot at the beginning.
Way to suck at life Sawyer.
