The Dental Thread

To go to a great dentist, you must become a great dentist.

Jokes aside i love watching NHK
And they have a really good show called medical frontiers. One good episode is on the power of periodontal care. Hope you enjoy the program:

After not going to the dentist from 2006-2014, I developed periodontal disease in my gums. They bled a lot, never felt pain (which is what fools so many people into thinking everything is fine). Thankfully the dentist I was seeing took care of it, wasn't close to losing any teeth, did lose some bone they said, but nothing too bad. Now I floss floss floss. Whereas before I wasn't flossing at all, I can't believe I never did it. Now if I don't floss for more than a day, I can just feel my teeth getting dirty. I love going to the dentist now. It's a very nice feeling to get your teeth all clean and scraped.

Point is, flossing is going to do a whole lot more for your teeth than brushing or mouth wash, flossing is where the real action is.

Yes. My dentist stressed to me that flossing will pretty much prevent most of your oral problems.

I can't recall where I read it, but apparently a common saying among dentists is "floss between the teeth you want to keep".

My dentist has that in their rooms.

When I got a root canal and a crown a few years ago, they injected me several times in the gums and that whole side of my face was numb for the next few hours. I kept checking in mirrors because I felt like I should be drooling, even though I outwardly looked normal. I felt like I'd had a stroke.

On the plus side, I didn't feel anything besides very minor pin pricks when they injected me, and a very very vague tugging sensation during the root canal.

Flossing is my main problem. In that the stuff can shred or get stuck inbetween your teeth. Fortunately they have expanded the types of floss these days to those which aren't so bad.

I use the Glide flosses and it does make a difference. My teeth in the front are seriously crowded and will shred any kind of normal thickness floss. :(

I can't floss with regular floss. I have to use good picks.

So I woke up ate a sandwich and I think a piece of my tooth fell out.

Yep. I chipped a tooth. My molar.

I chipped my front tooth on pizza crust awhile ago. Then I chipped it again on pizza crust. My front tooth is completely gone now. I need a new one lol.

I pulled out the little filling I had on the backside in between my front teeth by flossing so I got to get that redone. Years ago, I cracked the backside of a second molar off when there was a very tiny bone in the hamburger meat I was eating. That tooth was weakened by a large filling.

So I've learned the following things are good for your teeth:

Flossing
Water
Trident Peppermint
Straws (for sodas and coffee)
Baking Soda
