The Eggs Of Watchmen

Maybe Ozy is a white Michael Jackson, why not?

Wait...

During the end credits it lists all the shows that were used on ozymadias's monitors .
Really? I'll check that out when I get the dvd (you know, with no sound)

When Rorschach grabs the spray can it has veidt's logo on it, just like in the book

When it refers to "boys" under his folders I thought it was referring to the underwear models not little boys.

love love love the fact that nite owl is literally preventing the birth of batman in the first shot of the titles. very appropriate.

besides the many famous pop culture entities the opening montage manages to reference everything from the high renaissance to low brow pin up art of the forties to the pop art of the sixties. nice touch.

as far as film the movie references everything from apocalypse now, blade runner (tyler bate's soundtrack seems to take heavy inspiration from vangelis as well), dr strangelove, and even john huges with direct nods to the outer limits, the road warrior, 1984, and more. i also got a very robocop/repo man/ 80's action vibe at times and at other times a very hong kong verve. the movie feels of its time in a way thats hard to describe.

i have seen the movie three times and i keep noticing more and more. in the same way that moore peppered the book with many references to comics and pop culture, snyder has manged to do the same with art history and film. this movie begs to be dissected frame by frame. i also think it goes without saying that the film manages to comment on other forms of comic book media from the original batman series to the fantastic four films and the even the dark knight.

im sure more will reveal itself upon further viewings.

If you read the end of the graphic novel upside down and backwards, you'll get the movie ending.

Look closely. Thomas, Martha and what appears to be Alfred. Look at the posters in the background as well.

My, my. She's even wearing pearls.

Hhhhhmmmm isn't it a bit of a stretch to say that's the waynes? Couldn't it just be referential to batman?

Um, no. Gotham, superman, batman etc are all just in comics in the Watchmen world. The posters in the bg show that anyway! How could they be the Waynes if there are batman posters in the bg?

a sign behind that guys head says gotham opera house or something like that. i think it's the waynes

So even though batman would just be a kid, there are batman posters? Different fictional universe.

they're both homages. it doesn't have to be set in stone. i'm just saying that's the gotham opera house behind them

i clearly contradicted myself

batman was a comic batman read and got his inspiration from... accordining to that screenshot...

Batman is just a comic in the Watchmen universe. Just like superman is.

you said gotham is int he comics in the watchmen world. but gotham is right there IN the watchmen world. i know that couldn't realistically be the waynes becasue if there's batman, then his parents are already dead, etc. I'm just saying that that's gotham and while it may not be the waynes, it's still the inspiration, which is cool.

i realize i contradicted myself when i said its the waynes with batman right there. but if you're saying that gotham is fictional in the watchmen universe, this shot shows us that, apparently, gotham is one of the places nite owl 1 beat ash at. i can't remember if this is in the GN, and it's probably just an element of the movie. but the fact that it's there is still cool. i'm sure you were just hellbent on getting the point across that it can't actually be the waynes, and i see that

To wrap up the whole logic behind this homage, perhaps that's a theatre on "Gotham road".

Homages yes, but they can't actually be those characters.

really? why not? the whole film is fiction. dont be so literal. its clearly meant to be the waynes. there is a gotham newspaper and its the gotham opera house. she is wearing pearls.

because its a homage in a fictional film maybe? way to completely miss the point. i guess that cant be andy warhol or truman capote either hmmmn?
