The Force Awakens The Emperor? What will happen next?

So, I'm not criticizing the EU, I'm just saying I don't think that kind of distinction will work in the future movies, unless the order of the Sith is retroactively fleshed out.

One can easily distinguish one from the other if both are mentioned, with their differences. Like, for example, showing Korriban and the Dark Jedi finding it etc etc.

Well from a story standpoint, it would just be really anti-climactic to have like a dark jedi or some minor threat be the main villain. The new villain has to have something to do with the events prior, so the stakes seem like they are at their highest. If theres a whole new Jedi order, the Republics fine, and just some bad apple and the underworld is stirring up trouble for Luke and company to stop, it wouldn't be much of a climax. You know what I mean?

I think maybe some kind of ultimate evil, maybe have someone with imperial ruminants, looking for some kind of artifact hoping to gain the power of the Emperor. Then when he gets there he unleashes so deity of sorts of the darkside.

Idk, it's a tough one to crack. The Emperor was a nearly perfect villain for Star Wars, he not only represented Satan and the Darkside, but he also stood for the evils of the Empire, while Vader stood for the corruption (being a cyborg). You'd need to have something immensely evil and powerful to top that.

... That's what I meant by "retroactively fleshing out". :oldrazz:

Gotcha. The most interesting ideas around here so far have been Jedi Civil War and a new Mandalorian War.

Maybe there could be a sect of Dark Jedi, who's leader at the end reveals himself as a reincarnated Darth Plagueis? That would be a pretty good twist especially since in Sith it was implied he used the Darth Side to create Anakin, perhaps he truly learned the secret to immortality and the protagonist is his latest attempt at creating an highly powered apprentice.

EDIT: This would also kind of pay homage to the EU with Palps coming back from the death, without undoing the importance of Anakins scarifies. I mean if you think about it one Jedi and one Sith is still balanced.

I really like the idea of having another Mandalorian War. The whole Jedi/Sith thing has really been exhausted. I'd like to see something a little closer to the theme of the OT.. soldiers vs soldiers in space.

For that not to be a rather pointless development, the themes and plot devices of the movie would have to revolve around immortality. This reincarnated Plagueis also needs important information about the deceased Palpatine, or Old Republic, or whatever that also ties into the main plot (something only Plagueis could have), or otherwise it could be any random new character that discovered immortality through the dark side.

We don't want a case of Mass Effect 2 where we found out the Collectors were really indoctrinated Protheans. Interesting information, but... doesn't amount to much.

Given that Palpatine claimed that "the ability to cheat death has been discovered only by one" you wouldn't need to go back to the Old Republic, or much about the deceased Palpatine. The themes wouldn't necessarily have to revolve around immortality as you claim either. If you have some Imperial remnant or Dark Jedi trying to achieve the power of Palpatine and become the new Emperor and someone seeking out the long retired and old Luke Skywalker, it could fall inline with Joseph Campells heroes journey. The young hero is Lukes call to return as the antagonist is trying to unleash "the dragon".

Besides the point that if you're looking for a climax that tops the climax of the second act, which built very much on the first as well, then having the cause of all of these events and the evil behind everything come to surface would be just about the best you can get. It functions a lot better story wise than having a mandalorian war (a group of people who had nothing to do with anything in any of the previous films) be the big climax or a Jedi civil war when the purpose of Anakin was to end the corruption and the factions in the Jedi, as well as the Sith.

No matter who the new villain is, he/she should get the Emperor treatment and not be revealed until the end, and they should be part of a bigger picture. The biggest problem with the prequels (aside from Lucas writing them in the dark) was the huge focus on Darth Vader and the Jedi. The new films should have a smaller story that happens to feature Luke and the force, more like the originals.

This is why I want a loose adaptation of the Vong War. It can be an enemy that has been concealing themselves for years, separating themselves from the force, and leaves Luke and Jacen questioning the force and its nature.

This post confuses me a bit, but I think we agree to some extent. You can have a new character seek immortality without it being Darth Plagueis.

My main point I'm trying to make is that the character needs to be related some what to the events of the past. I'm not real big on immortality, but I feel Jedi really boxed us in here.

To be completely honest, I'm not too keen on re-incarnations or resurrections. If a Sith must coem back, I'd rather it be in holocron form.

Sith can leave behind residual dark side energy (such as the cave on Dagobah), but becoming a Force Ghost is a Jedi thing.

It would be interesting if Palpatine, who's long dead, had, had set a postmorten plan along to screw the Republic. Not something like a clone of himself or a stash of old Storm Trooper uniforms. Some kind of magical, insidious secret that our protagonist stumbles upon.

What do you guys think the odds are of Ep7 starring a female Jedi, like the idea of Luke's sister? I could go for some of that. And maybe Disney will see Hunger Games as "proof" that it can be make money.

Sure, I wouldn't be opposed to a well written female protagonist. Jaina Solo became very interesting in the books, in an underdog kind of way.

Jedi defeat a semi strong threat. Leads to a Jedi Civil War. Darker side of that war returns to Endor space and finds the Emperor's dark energy. Researches sith history. Final skywalker battle.
