The Fantastic 4: First Steps • Teaser trailer reaction thread

Vanessa Kirby was a stand out in Mission Impossible Fallout.

I'm loving her as Sue Storm.

And Ben looks perfect.
Yes, she elevated that for me above what a standard casting might have done. And now we're seeing it in a live action tease I'm even more confident and happy.

Agreed, I can't ask for more on Ben's cute, lovable look either. :D

Definitely think Ben's voice isn't deep or gruff enough. There's almost something more like Rocket Racoon's voice about him than what I'd imagine someone tough and made of rocks would sound like. Seth Rogen had exactly the kind of voice I would've wanted for him. Also the Thing kind of looks a bit like an animated character or a toy and not quite real within the MCU world.

I like the 60s visuals though, particularly that car racing through the street. Johnny did seem a bit lackluster.
So, your friends made of rocks, what do they sound like?

I'm not a huge F4 fan, but I respect the legacy and lore and I want the franchise to be done justice. The trailer was bit of a mixed bag for me. Here are my quick thoughts.

Pros:
  • LOVE the costumes and 60s design aesthetics! Especially the Fantasticar, my favorite part of the trailer.
  • Vanessa Kirby was the standout for me. Very much looking forward to her as Sue.
  • The theme song carried the trailer. Very uplifting and awe-inspiring!
  • The side shot of Johnny in the upper atmosphere was dope.
Cons:
  • I like Pedro in most everything he's in, but as Mr. Fantastic he feels a bit uninspired. Also, no peak as his powers.
  • Johnny's flames look kinda generic.
  • Something throws me off about Ben aside from his voice. Maybe it's the animation.
  • The shot of Galactus with the Statue of Liberty felt underwhelming.
  • Cinematography looked pretty bland with the exception of a few shots.
That being said, this is definitely the most promising and inspired version of this team and it looks better than most post-Endgame MCU projects. Looking forward to seeing more!

The retro feel/60s setting kinda reminds me of X-Men: First Class.

Absolutely loved  the teaser shown.

Everything that had been 'promised' or heard from sources of the direction the film, was taking, this teaser demonstrated the quality of this.

I think it's going to be the most 'vital' of key MCU film of recent films, (since Endgame), a claim I appreciate, but one that really ties the previous formation of the Avengers with what's coming with the introduction of Mutants and formation of The Avengers Version 2.0

I don't get the 'negativity' I've seen so far on the CGI of Ben / The Thing, what I've seen, in the trailer is excellent, and captures the feel of all the characters to me, and I'm loving the 60's setting for the first family route they are leaning into.

Like others are saying, Kirby is absolutely on-point, for casting.
