The Fortress of Solitude: The Superman Lounge

Legit shocked one of Superman's most iconic villains is a Silver Age creation.

decided to use my Peter Griffin as Super Friends Superman as an avatar kinda fitting user tittle ;)

Which Super Friends couldn't be done today? I know the obvious answer is Apache Chief. 🥲

That's probably another ignorant white character.

So people over the internet, naturally divided are complaining about Gunn putting himself in nearly all the promos/making it all about himself? I don't know if he is, but even in the recent BTS photo showing Jimmy Olsen, Gunn is in that shot, not too long after that shot of Superman and Luthor was released, Gunn was also in the shot. I've only seen more directors popping up on late night shows more recently, rather than just the cast members of the movies.

Gunn was in that Shaq promotion with Corenswet. I get what people are saying. Personally I didn't really mind Gunn promoting his movie, at the same time, I feel like Gunn should let the film be the star, even though it is Gunn's movie, he should let Superman be the star. Noticed how Zack Snyder was usually in the background. At least when Snyder promoted his films, it was more about his vision than anything else, in my perspective. Snyder didn't seem to be making it all about himself. Snyder's Superman-I said it-has been referred to as "Zack Snyder's Superman" but people still say "Henry Cavill's Superman."

People have stated how Gunn removed the name "Legacy" from the title, perhaps so people could start referring to it as "James Gunn's Superman." Personally I wish he had kept the original title out of respect for Superman 1978.

I don't recall seeing Gunn pop up too many times when promoting Guardians of the Galaxy, but it seems he only rose to more fame after he took on The Suicide Squad, as I remember Gunn appearing on Jimmy Kimmel with John Cena as Peacemaker.

I have to admit though, not that I'm against directors making cameos in their movies, but I always get distracted by it when you know who they are, and it makes me conscious of the film and almost takes me out of the story, like with M Night Shyamalan's Trap. Shawn Levy too.

The people who insinuate that the writer/director being at the forefront of a film's selling point is a problem are coming at the film in bad faith to begin with. It's marketing. A co-CEO is writing and directing a major IP blockbuster. It's gonna be addressed and flaunted. It's nothing.

What do these people think articles and interviews with the writer/director are though? Is it a problem that he was on set directing the film he wrote? :o

What do these people think when Reeves does his thing? Nolan? Coogler right now? Every director ever?

You honestly don't see the difference? Like forget that Gunn has completely changed his persona for a sec. That he's super cultivated. Nolan does the marketing obligation but stays in the shadows 99% of the time. Reeves and Coogler do more social media, but I don't remember either of them spending a lot of time selling us on the vision of a blood thirsty studio head. I also don't feel like any of those three try to overshadow their stars.

Honestly this feels more Snyder then any of the three you mentioned.

Gunn sure does a lot of social media for someone who supposedly stays in the shadows.

Of course I see the difference between their day to day interaction with social media. I'm talking about the marketing aspect. He has a massive film coming out right now. Him being in BTS photos in articles makes sense to me. Him being on social media even more then he already is makes sense to me. It doesn't have to be liked. But it is what it is w Gunn.

Part of the reason he's featured, debatably, more heavier in the promotional side of things is because he's reached a level of notoriety as a director, writer, producer etc that his name being connected with the film will actually sway some people to pay to see it that otherwise may not have.

There's nothing unusual or nefarious about his involvement at all.

Gunn has about as much visibility with this movie as Matt Reeves had with The Batman. Did we complain about Matt Reeves trying to overshadow his actors every time he posted on twitter, or did an interview? Or was pictured on set?

Logically Said!
